quote:
Patriotism is proud of a country’s virtues and eager to correct its deficiencies; it also acknowledges the legitimate patriotism of other countries, with their own specific virtues. The pride of nationalism, however, trumpets its country’s virtues and denies its deficiencies, while it is contemptuous toward the virtues of other countries. It wants to be, and proclaims itself to be, “the greatest,” but greatness is not required of a country; only goodness is. — Sydney J. Harris

quote:
The difference between patriotism and nationalism is that the patriot is proud of his country for what it does, and the nationalist is proud of his country no matter what it does; the first attitude creates a feeling of responsibility, but the second a feeling of blind arrogance that leads to war.

Any one who is a nationalist should be hence forth be referred to as a nazi(german abbreviation of the word "nazional") by people who now have this distinction - Go spread the word

And no nation is worthy in that young mans eyes whose citizens wants every one to be be thrilled when the "The Star Spangled Banner" is being played. Those thoughts could be considered nationalistic.

So all you right wing nuts especially one person in this forum, don't call Obama names for not wearing a flag or putting his hand over his heart when the PIA is sung. Fact is the left wingers or any one else might call you a "nazi" for doing such a thing.

- Go spread the word in your commune

America doesn't need to be "worthy" in your eyes because where the rubber meets the road juvenile naysayers like you just don't really matter all that much.

America is a nation of optimists and your overall disposition is one of pessimism.

Any philosophy that can be put in a nutshell belongs there. Sydney J Harris

ok then,

“Hypocrisy, arrogance, pride, anger, harshness, and ignorance; these are the marks of those who are born with demonic qualities, O Arjuna.”
Bhagavad Gita

“Pride defeats its own end, by bringing the man who seeks esteem and reverence into contempt.”
Henry Bolingbroke (British Politician, 1678-1751)

“It's partisan politics, people trying to discredit somebody else so then they can make themselves look better.”
Donald Evans

“Conceit is God's gift to little men”
Bruce Barton

"Patriotism is when love of your own people comes first," de Gaulle said. "Nationalism, when hate for people other than your own comes first."
