He sounds like a conservative. We should grant him immediate citizenship and run him to replace Arlen Specter, Sue Collins or Olympia Snow.

President Teleprompter could use a good dose of Daniel Hannan's common sense too.

I completely agree. This guy is definitely on the right track and if we can't listen to our own people, maybe we can listen to those who have been there, failed at that. The big lie is that we "don't know" how this can turn out and that we can only "hope" it will work. Alas, we do know ... because everyone else who has tried similar has similarly failed in the long run.

The US is the only one of it's kind, from its system of government (Constitutional Republic) and more. What has made us such a powerhouse is a small government from the start ... and a belief in the power and freedom of the individual. Now all that is threatened and in a manner and scale we've never seen before.

When I tell people that other countries would suit them better, it isn't an attack on them. It is because there are already countries that have similar ideologies in effect. Why do people insist on destroying the US, too? Frankly, there isn't any where else that people like me can be told to go ... because there is only one US. There are plenty of socialized nations, there are plenty of communist nations. There is only one US in the whole world with precisely our blend of a Constitutional Republic with a democratic tradition, with our traditional upholding of personal rights and freedoms and responsibilities and with our economic system. That's it. Once they destroy the US, there is nowhere left to turn. And why destroy something when there already exist so many other places that are obviously more suited to your personal ideologies?

I don't think most Americans will stand for more of this for much longer.

eleanore you are missing one important factor. and that is resources. england has been declining since the empire started to break up, making resources more expensive. in the last half of the 20th century it underwent HUGE social change because of all the "ex'colonials" who came home to roost. the assimilation of blacks and folk from the colonies which we have been experiencing over a 200 years period happened there in 50 years. form of government is only one of the factors in their economy. england has precious few resources compared to the US. despite its so-called socialism it has a large aristocratic class, a house of parliament just for them!, and some of the richest people in the world live there quite happily. and they are entitled to nationally funded healthcare if they choose it. yes they pay taxes. but not much more than we do. and they have a HUGE middle class. though i think gordon brown has undermined the economy seriously and i am NOT up on his policies...

daniel hannan is a conservative englishman (actually peruvian-english, another colonial come home) why would he want to live in america? he is busy working on being prime minister there; by the way he has, i believe, switched from the conservative party to the independents, and apparently has said publically that WERE he american he would have voted for ron paul.

but the thing that people seem to be missing is that MOST englishmen, or other countrymen, have no desire to be americans!! fancy that. they actually prefer their own country, whatever the form of government. in fact the biggest complaint most english people have is about - the WEATHER! and no govt yet has found a way to alter that. many brits RETIRE to other countries for the sunshine, but they do NOT give up their british passports.

and "socialist" england is the only country i have seen making national decisions through a referendum lately. of course that was years ago, but it was a pretty inspiring thing to see.
