don't know how many of you LLers caught this one previously, it dates from (i believe) 1938? people were completely taken in by this. the jersey turnpike or whatever the equivalent was of that time was crammed with bumper-to-bumper people trying to get out of new york.

of course this was a RADIO show, but there was a similar hoax in the 90's regarding meteors hitting earth on TV ...
