"Sound (Beaming) Forward"There's a hush in the wind that braids my hair in soft weaves. There's a voice that echoes in the woods. It is the Mother before any other mother "Keep breathing," she says, "and look at the core before there were surroundings," the light before the dark. "But I've never seen the light," I lean back against her swollen belly. She smiles and points to the singing dolphins painted on the stone wall. "They did not know they would produce music but to our ears it is beautiful. To them it is language." She whispers a note in my ear and urges me to sing. I've never sung before, but my mouth lays open and slack; a bubble of sound weighs heavy above our heads. "Send it forward." There's a fire the woman builds that shadows my cheeks. The sparks ignite my face. "It's time to open your eyes." I think, perhaps, she is right. That the light might bend back to me. copyright LMB 2001 IP: Logged |
