Drawing a bath with the drain unplugged is foolishness. It empties as fast as it enters, faster if the water is not allowed to flow freely. As soon as it is clear that water can flow, then the drain should be stopped so that the bath may fill. Once filled, the water will begin to reveal its secrets.

Put your ears beneath the water and listen. There is truth to be found there.

Remain still, and the movement that does not originate with you is easily seen by its ripples. Move, and the source of the ripples is not as clearly determined.

Still, purposeful movement can be useful. Slap your hand gently on the surface and notice the ripples that return to your hand. Follow them back to their source. There you will find other objects, the sides of the bath.

Put your hand under the water. Be still. Now pull your hand out of the water and notice that the water moves away from your hand as it comes up. The ripples on the surface also move away.

Leave your hand out of the water and be still again until the movement subsides. Push your hand quickly into the water. Notice that the water follows your hand this time, but the ripples still move away.

Look for a soap bubble, or a speck of lint on the surface of the water. Push it and it will move away. Lead it in the direction you would have it go, and it will follow.

When your bath is finished, notice how clean you are and what you have left behind to go down the drain where it belongs.
