The butterfly led an interesting life. She went about from flower to flower,
smelling them,
falling asleep on their petals.
She visited the trees,
and watched the clouds pass while lying on their branches.
She busied herself on the rocks,
near the edge of the stream,
napping on them in the sunshine.
She travelled what seemed like the whole world,
and she was tired.
She loved the flowers and the beauty they showed to her.
She was intrigued by the secrets that hid in the silent trees.
She was forever amazed by the gush of the water running by her,
but she was tired.
Then one day,
when the butterfly was visiting one of her stable oaks,
an owl appeared in the knot of the tree.

''Why are you so sad?'' asked the owl.

The butterfly was taken aback,
she didn't think she was sad,
but,
in those simple words, she knew she had found the truth inside her.

''I am sad because no matter how far I go, or high I think I get, I cannot find the breeze.'' she replied.

''Why do you think that is?'' the owl questioned.

''I don't know. I am a butterfly!'' she exclaimed, ''I belong in the sky. I like to sit with the daisies, they are my friends. I like to lie in the oaks, they are my friends. I like to watch the brook babble, he is my friend. But I cannot seem to reach the sky, no matter how hard I try to.'' sighed the butterfly.

''Oh, dear dear creature,'' began the owl, ''you are so young and sweet. But you are not a butterfly.''

''I'm not?'' asked the creature, now so uncertain.

''No, small one. You have it inside you to reach the sky, but you haven't yet gotten your wings. So go back to your friends for now, as they will show you the fire inside. And they will teach you to remember your roots. And they will give you a place for reflection. And then, sweet caterpillar, you will go to sleep; a sleep you have needed for so long. There you will be safe and warm, dear thing, and when you awaken, spread your wings and fly. Fly over your stream, and smell your flowers, and leave your old shell in the branches. For then will be your time to join me in the sky.''

Just a little story that popped in my head today.

Honey, that's such a finespun story - almost like an anecdote
I popped back here before leaving work - remembering you had written something I hadn't read as yet!

I'm glad I did. You know how the evenings are drawing in closer here now? Well I can step outside at 18:00 with a lil' spring in my step
