you're not bad-looking, you've got some talent and brains,
and all that was done for you, and then some
you long to repay, in a meaningful way
expectations are so soundly ingrained
you thought about running for england,
and you'd rather do it in your own time
but a merchant banker playing the stock market,
or a doctor, or a lawyer, would suit them just fine

you graduate with an M.A., PhD too,
your last port of call was your old student bar stool
where you drown your sorrow in a wonderful woe
self-pity and self-doubt won't pack up and go
and when you thought about running for england,
you seemed to have so much time on your side
but priorities change, and now everything's different
and you won't admit to your wounded pride
it might pay to tune in to your radar
do you need an escape route? (hey yeah, yeah)
don't stop to question what you're afraid of,
just "get out and do it" before you drop dead

Ariestiger, you're reading my mind. Good one!

You must be a twenty-something too!

I'm a thirtysomething (just).
I have been through the twentysomething stage! I know ALL about it.

"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll
