our children are already dreaming
before we kill the light
says a brother who's down so deeply
with the love in the air tonight
sometimes i wish that we could understand
we've been standing in the promised land
if only we
would embrace the change

jesus was already thinking
while the dazed and restless grazed
they say that we're only human
any humans here today?
does f**king-feeding-fighting make the man?
or has our baser nature gotten out of hand?
any way that we
might embrace the change?

evolution marches on
despite our tendency
to ignore the lessons won
by those who die and beg and bleed
or fail their daily tests..like me

a few steps back
into the past
where beasts that bleat and bark and bray
were acting like we do today
but with a bit more dignity?
can evolution do its thing
if we don't embrace the change
and die away?

maybe I'm already dreaming
into another night
to days we pass believing
in the love in the air tonight
is it possible that we'll understand
we've been living in the promised land?
or will we refuse to change
then fade away?
