Life is so short Fall in love, dear maiden While your lips are still red And before you are cold, For there will be no tomorrow. Life is so short Fall in love, dear maiden While your hair is still black And before the fire in your heart dies down For today will never come again. -------------

------------------ 'Would you know your Lord's meaning in this thing? Know it well. Love was his meaning. Who showed it to you? Love. What did he show you? Love. Why did he show it? For love. Keep yourself therein and you shall know and understand more in the same. But you shall never know nor understand any other thing, forever.' - Julian of Norwich

Good. I like to send those shivers running. Sometimes we dont notice them until they do. (Or until its too late.) Sometimes only the reaper's cold finger can point the way to a higher life. I'm glad it touched you, Sue. Love to you, hsc "Every angel is terrifying." - Rainer Maria Rilke

The poem is nice in the way it flows, HSC but I'm not real crazy about the words. Sorry. There are certain phrases of the poem that implies that love, beauty and passion only comes with youth. Which is not the case at all. These are the phrases of which I speak: While your lips are still red And before you are cold, Fall in love, dear maiden While your hair is still black And before the fire in your heart dies down These phrases suggest that with age you lose not only beauty but passion as well. That is a very old fashioned stereotype of older women which really never applied to older women and especially does not apply in modern times. Older people, men and women, never grow cold of heart and they never lose the fire in their heart either. That may come with death but not old age. Beauty changes from youth to old age but that does not make older women any less attractive in their own way or any less desirable. Passion never changes from youth to old age. Only death can put out the fire in the heart. The one thing about the words of the poem that is true is that life is short. It's startling how fast the years go by and the youth of today will be old before they realize and wondering where the past 20 years went. For that reason every moment should be lived and cherished. In short the poem reminds me of a Pepsi or beer commericial. IP: Logged |

True love will find you in the end You'll find out just who was your friend Don’t be sad, I know you will, But don’t give up until True love will find you in the end. This is a promise with a catch Only if you're looking will it find you ‘Cause true love is searching too But how can it recognize you Unless you step out into the light? Don't be sad, I know you will But don’t give up until True love will find you in the end. - daniel johnston
