The Sphynx is drowsy,
Her wings are furled,
Her ear is heavy,
She broods on the world.-
"Who'll tell me my secret
The ages have kept?
- I awaited the seer,
While they slumbered and slept;-

The fate of the manchild,
The meaning of man;
Known fruit of the unknown,
Dćdalian plan;
Out of sleeping a waking,
Out of waking a sleep,
Life death overtaking,
Deep underneath deep.

Erect as a sunbeam
Upspringeth the palm;
The elephant browses
Undaunted and calm;
In beautiful motion
The thrush plies his wings;
Kind leaves of his covert!
Your silence he sings.

The waves unashamed
In difference sweet,
Play glad with the breezes,
Old playfellows meet.
The journeying atoms,
Primordial wholes,
Firmly draw, firmly drive,
By their animate poles.

Sea, earth, air, sound, silence,
Plant, quadruped, bird,
By one music enchanted,
One deity stirred,
Each the other adorning,
Accompany still;
Night veileth the morning,
The vapor the hill.

The babe by its mother
Lies bathed in joy,
Glide its hours uncounted,
The sun is its toy;
Shines the peace of all being
Without cloud in its eyes,
And the sum of the world
In soft miniature lies.

But man crouches and blushes,
Absconds and conceals,
He creepeth and peepeth,
He palters and steals;
Infirm, melancholy,
Jealous glancing around,
An oaf, an accomplice,
He poisons the ground.

Out spoke the great mother
Beholding his fear,
At the sound of her accents
Cold shuddered the sphere;-
Who has drugged my boy's cup,
Who has mixed my boy's bread?
Who with sadness and madness
Has turned the manchild's head?"-

I heard a poet answer
Aloud and cheerfully,
"Say on, sweet Sphynx! thy dirges
Are pleasant songs to me.
Deep love lieth under
These pictures of time,
They fade in the light of
Their meaning sublime.

The fiend that man harries,
Is love of the Best;
Yawns the Pit of the Dragon
Lit by rays from the Blest.
The Lethe of Nature
Can't trance him again,
Whose soul sees the Perfect,
Which his eyes seek in vain.

Profounder, profounder,
Man's spirit must dive;
To his aye-rolling orbit
No goal will arrive.
The heavens that draw him
With sweetness untold,
Once found, -for new heavens
He spurneth the old.

Pride ruined the angels,
Their shame them restores,
And the joy that is sweetest
Lurks in stings of remorse.
Have I a lover
Who is noble and free,-
I would he were nobler
Than to love me.

Eterne alternation
Now follows, now flies,
And under pain, pleasure,
Under pleasure, pain lies.
Love works at the centre,
Heart-heaving alway;
Forth speed the strong pulses
To the borders of day.

Dull Sphynx, Jove keep thy five wits!
Thy sight is growing blear,
Rue, myrrh, and cummin for the Sphynx,
Her muddy eyes to clear."
The old Sphynx bit her thick lip,-
"Who taught thee me to name?
I am thy spirit, yoke-fellow!
Of thine eye I am eyebeam.

Thou art the unanswered question;
Couldst see thy proper eye,
Alway it asketh, asketh,
And each answer is a lie.
So take thy quest through nature,
It through thousand natures ply,
Ask on, thou clothed eternity,-
Time is the false reply."

Uprose the merry Sphynx,
And crouched no more in stone,
She melted into purple cloud,
She silvered in the moon,
She spired into a yellow flame,
She flowered in blossoms red,
She flowed into a foaming wave,
She stood Monadnoc's head.

Thorough a thousand voices
Spoke the universal dame,
"Who telleth one of my meanings,
Is master of all I am."

~Ralph Waldo Emerson~

The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Silverstone, how do you do that? hehe, I start with My Mind and am looking for pieces, then you appear, with the affirmations....to my wanderings...Magician!?

Erect as a sunbeam
Upsringeth the palm;
the elephant browses
Undaunted and calm,
In beautiful motion.
The Trush plies his wings;
Kind leaves of his covert!
Your silence he sings.

in my vision, the sphinx is built with cogs and springs, mechanisms, even a songbird that sings...also the Sphinx will open up, it's wings will unfurl...the elephant is browsing the hall of records...I see the Emerald Tablets, one is broken, but still together....

The Waves unashamed
In difference sweet
Play glad with the breezes
Old playfellows meet
The journeying atoms,
Primordial wholes,
Firmly draw, firmly drive
By their animate poles

this is about the Nile, and an
old soul group gathering together
for they are atoms now whole...
for they found their twin, their
polar opposite. ...

what do you think?

I know I've missed a few pieces, for
the others who know, must join in...

we must solve the mystery together..all
of Us, from first generation, to now....

LOve and Reverence to ALL... .

Wow, I enjoyed reading that! Thanks for sharing.

You got me interested in the poet. I looked him up and learned the word 'transcendentalism'( ). I think Walden has a kind face too .

That's an amazing poem. And like the riddle of the sphinx it is itself a riddle. I have yet to decipher the meaning of some of the passages.

Awesome picture, Bluemoon!

okay, maybe start with the first one:

The Sphinx is drowsy,
Her wings are furled,
Her ear is heavy,
She broods on the world,-
"Who'll tell me my secret
The ages have kept?
-I awaited the seer,
While they slumbered and slept:-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I would like to share my vision from MOther
and Father...
When I reach the Sphinx, it's through the right
paw, I will go...my voice, my hearbeat, my tone, and the others...I will not be given the words, the mantra, til I am there...
this will cause the right paw to spring up...
the cogs and mechanisms, shall turn....
to the Hall of Records we will go, follow the
symbols press the right levers...to get to
the Heart..the records of all ages are there..all creations....the Emerald Tablets,
yet I see one has been broken...the place
has been visited by a seer...this
caused the disturbance that broke the tablet.
her wings will also unfurl..open like
Lambourginie(spelled that wrong,hehe)doors...
There is also a spaceship here...
anyOne remembering anything?
I truly must find those that see
these things...
Silverstone!, awaiting a comment, where did you go?
LOve and Reverence for ALL. ...
Each person will be given their own words/mantra...we all need each other
to solve this..to get this information
that I believe will save this planet...
bring Light to the Dark...for we are
still so unbalanced...the dark weighs
haevy and dense, we must meet in the
middle and bring back balance 50/50...
there other sites that will have to
visited...there are places even here
in the U.S. , where they brought relics
to the new World, see, there are two
sides to this light and dark...
Calling ALL Angels...
Our True-Selves in Heaven OverSOul
Calling ALL Devils...
Us, in Body Temple form...to your
Mind, to your OverSoul...unite in
the trinity Light
Body to Mind to OverSoul...knowing ThySelf,
uniting with twin...halves, become whole...
For those of you who are involved in Edgar Cayce’s work, you’ll remember that about 60 years ago he said that some day we would find a room associated with the Sphinx that would lead to the records that were proof of superadvanced civilizations on Earth going back for millions of years, and that the opening to this room would be located in the right paw of the Sphinx. To be more precise, the pyramid’s placement relative to the Sphinx is not random, since the Sphinx is older than the pyramids.
Here's an excerpt:
…there would be 144 people—48 sets of three people each—who would come from the west to Egypt. And that these sets of three would have something specific to do there. Eventually one particular set of these sets of three would walk up to the Sphinx and enter this special room containing what Edgar Cayce called, “the Hall of Records.”
[It is said that] that there voices would open the way to one of three hallways deep under the sand that would lead to the Hall of Records. It said that there would be a clay pot in the corner with some hieroglyphics on it that would tell them which of the tunnels they were supposed to move through. ~Drunvalo
It is said that the head of the Sphinx will one day fall off, and when it does, it will expose a golden sphere in its neck that is some kind of time capsule. Moreover, under the Giza complex there was a city that would hold 10,000 people. The people who lived in the city would be people who had reached immortal status and had become part of what we call the ascended masters. They were what the ancient Egyptians called the Tat Brotherhood. About more than six years ago their numbers had reached just about 8000. This underground city is the place where the Tat Brotherhood lived in isolation while the rest of humanity continued to evolve.
