I spent Thanksgiving Day on the beach with my new digital camera and a whole bunch of birds! I've never seen so many different types of birds together on one beach! It was a drizzly day but that didnt stop me from getting some great shots. The clouds broke and the sun popped out a couple of times. Thought I'd share some of the shots here...

This is the first scene that caught my eye. I call it "Outcast" because the little guy on the rock, seperate from the group, really spoke to me. I like how he is also looking down, seems kind of like he's scuffing his feet, dejected and seperated from the group.

I also liked how the cement they are all standing on fades from light (where the group of them are) to dark - almost black, where the loner is. The crest of the wave and foam hovers above the group showing movement or energy & life, whereas the part the water seems calmer, stilled, quieter, surrounding the loner bird. Kind of framing him and attracting the eye to the area.

I knew when I took this that I would be converting it to black and white. I think it helps to express the mood i found in the scene.

second favorite:

A small and quick break in the clouds lets in some light. A bird takes up the opportunity and flies into the sun.

a group of pelicans (i think) taking off.

i like the balance in this shot. i think the elements in the picture lead the eye to the birds.

...though coastal pictures can be pretty, i hope to start taking some shots of more interesting subject matter....some "unsightly beauty" as it comes into focus.
(and as i learn exactly how to operate the camera properly )

I love these! I saw them when I was online the other night, just briefly, but now I'm getting to see them on a larger monitor. The lighting and colours are lovely.

"On a Mission" made me chuckle ~ he does look determined.
