Reading a chart the other day; working on self exploration these days..why not read my own? Why not interpret my personal natal horoscope through the eyes of him who knows me second best..myself?

Yes, I've seen my chart..but never spent as much time on it as on the charts of others. Here was a very important tool in the search for an understanding of my internal difficulties..and I'd been ignoring it.

Without much study, the near stellium of planets in Virgo struck me as related to my tendency to overly critical/analytical thinking. Heavy Scorp influences don't even things out much in that area, unfortunately.

First House Venus evokes images of a person lost in a mirror. Can't deny my tendency to enjoy the things I write, do..speak. Been working on the vanity..but the challenge is that self ingratiating behavior becomes a vanity in its own right. Sigh.

Cancer Moon in Sagittarius. Over active imagination about big problems. Eeeeeeemmoooooo activist. Chicken little plays philosopher.

Mercury/Sun in Libra. Blah. Blah. blah. blah.

Ok..that's enough for now. Ow.

"As Aries is the sign of greatest self-interest - something it needs to properly develop - Pisces is the sign of the least self-preoccupation, although it is enthralled with and even addicted to the intoxicating outpourings of its own unconscious...

"Pisces is less able to establish fixed, rigid ways of viewing the world. It doesn't easily define reality in concrete terms. The fishes are subject to much change in their perceptions, depending on the flow of life's continuous currents...

"One big temptation for Pisces involves the loss of a personal, ego-driven identity... Amazingly, this sign totally surrenders itself to life.

"Unlike its opposite sign, Virgo, Pisces is not selective in the experiences it allows itself to undergo. This lack of discrimination is often what gets it into deep trouble, but it also makes Pisces the most tolerant and nonjudgmental sign of all. To discriminate would be to weed [no pun intended] something out, and that goes against the Piscean longing for unity... None are turned away, as this facet of Pisces is filled with compassion and empathy...

"Nevertheless, Pisces needs to avoid letting its ego vanish into a black pool of nothingness, since it can otherwise tolerate living out its life as a cipher or an invisible being, one forever unnoticed by the world... Wisely and maturely serving some greater universal cause is exactly what the Cosmos has in mind for Pisces, but to just senselessly undergo an ego-disappearing act, and confusing it with true spirituality, is a major blind spot of this sign. Pisces types need to preserve a strong, resilient sense of self, in order to make their dreams come true...

"Pisces is blessed with the power to positively channel archetypal energy from the collective unconscious, meaning that it can tap into angelic realms and provide us with the rarest and loftiest of images. Beauty expressed on this level can be exquisite and is able to soothe our deepest selves. It is good for all Piscean types never to deprive themselves of the finest their culture has to offer in the realms of art, music, and drama. This safely allows them to have the transcendent experiences they secretly crave and need."

daf,

You dont have a stellium in Virgo.

A stellium is a conjunction of three or more planets/points.

The orb to Mars is too wide.
Thats not even an aspect.

And Uranus is in Libra, not Virgo.

So, just two planets conjunct in Virgo.

Jupiter and Pluto.

But they are exact,
and thats a very cool aspect to have.

"Hidden Wealth"
"Immense Power"
"Philosophical Depth"

And its well-aspected too.

You can probably call that a stellium,
since they are conjunct Uranus,
but I think the fact that Uranus is in Libra is key.
It's at 0' Libra, a "Cardinal Point".
So, right there, its very significant.

What else?...

Sun/Mercury and Moon in close, dynamic aspect to Saturn.

Hmm...

And with mars disenfranchised (unaspected),
no wonder you have difficulty actualizing your potential;
specifically, the potential for self-discipline,
as shown by Saturn in Aries (which Mars rules).

Mars in the 10th, too,
isnt fond of submission, even in Virgo
(and Leo on the MC doesnt help).
Maybe it wants to be in the 11th,
with the others.
Maybe group participation is the way
to actualize both mars and saturn positively?

Where's your North Node?

Your attraction, or should I say adherence,
to traditional, systematic approaches,
sanctioned by time and authority,
is well evidenced in those Saturn aspects
(and in the 9th house Cancer Moon).

And, probably, that is the path for you.

In any case, you are determined to go that way.

Still, I think Uranus has something to tell you.

Namaste,
hsc

Your stellium comment could be a matter of interpretation. I've never heard of the conjunction requirement prior to this. I looked it up, and found varying opinions on the strictness of that rule. Usually when people comment on my chart my Sag stellium comes up, and my Neptune is 11 degrees away from my Mercury. Daf's whole span in Virgo is only 9 degrees. I wouldn't say that Mars is necessarily conjunct, but I would include it if talking about a concentration/stellium of energy in Virgo.

The t-square jumps out at me.

Daf, thanks for the inspiration, I just spent hours reviewing my chart and checking interpretations. Now I'm feeling "full" of "myself".

NosiS is right, from now on when we post our charts we will have to make sure we give proper credit to God for his original creation.

For example:

Boy, we're all really pieces of work, eh?

Yup Ladies and Gentlemen I'm here all week.

HSC, you are SO the stellium police.

'n AG, yer just GIVING them away!

I personally have 5 planets smushed into a 16 degree area (nevermind that it crosses two signs and two houses) so I have a SUPER stellium. I'm just making that up, cuz I can.

Ok, here's a good one:

"A Stellium is technically a group of three or more planets that are conjunct each other. Being a 1st Harmonic (Conjunction) aspect pattern, the orbs allowable for a Stellium can be quite generous. The textbook definition of a Stellium would be three planets at the same degree of a sign, as in the Sun, Mars and Jupiter each at 12° Virgo (or each within a 1-2° orb of this point). Stelliums can also consist of two planets that, while they are too far apart to be considered to be Conjunct each other, are each Conjunct a third planet which forms a sort of a link and connection between the three. (In other words, the Sun at 1° Virgo, Mars at 6° Virgo and Jupiter at 11° Virgo; the Sun and Jupiter are too far apart to be Conjunct, but since each of them is Conjunct Mars, the three planets are linked.) Because Stelliums are a whole-sign Aspect Pattern, even having three or more planets in the same sign could be considered a Stellium. (Three or more planets in the same HOUSE, however, is not a Stellium.)

Needless to say, the closer the Conjunctions are, the stronger and more powerful the effect of the Stellium will be. Also, in general, the personal planets are far more significant to consider than the outer planets. An entire generation was born with Pluto and Uranus conjunct in Virgo; everyone born between August 22 and September 20 in the years 1964 through 1968 will have at least Sun, Uranus and Pluto in Virgo. The outer planets represent universal forces, and while simply having personal planets in the same sign as outer planets may indicate a certain resonance with the generational influences, it generally doesn't indicate a significant impact on an individual's personality. What is significant, however, is when a personal planet is closely Conjunct an outer planet (either on its own or as part of a Stellium). This indicates a very strong link between that planet's function and the universal unconscious forces. Through that personal planet, the individual is tied into cycles and energies that are entirely beyond his or her control; the individual is both at the mercy of these forces, and also able to channel and express them in a very personal way, helping others to experience and understand the energies of universal change.

When considering Stelliums, the most important thing to keep in mind is that an individual with a Stellium even only a Stellium by Sign will have a very strong emphasis on and experience of the energy represented by that sign. Although we all have all 12 Signs in our charts, there are less than twelve major bodies, and therefore it is not possible to have a planet in every sign. This doesn't mean that we can't or don't experience the full range of energies represented by the 12 Signs; it does mean, however, that we will tend to be more familiar with and more focused on the energy of the Signs that contain planets. When three or more planets are in the same Sign, the energy and lessons of that Sign become extremely significant to an individual.

If the planets are actually conjunct each other, this intensity and focus grows to encompass more than a mere affinity for the experiences and energy of a particular sign. The closer the planets are to being Conjunct, the more tightly unified the planets become, and the harder it becomes to separate the different needs and drives of the planets. In very tight Stelliums, the planets almost seem to fuse together, and act as a unit, almost a "super-planet" that can often become the driving force in a person's chart.

As an example, let's look at a person with the Moon, Mercury and Mars in the same sign, but not conjunct each other. With this type of Stellium, the individual would have the same approach, the same motivation for how they felt and reacted (Moon), communicated (Mercury) and took action (Mars). If, on the other hand the Moon, Mercury and Mars were all Conjunct each other, the three planets would tend to act as a unit. This person might, for example, find that they always have to express their feelings and their desires and have great difficulty in holding back what they feel or think. Every thought, every feeling would tend to require some action on their part because every time their Moon or Mercury is used, so is their Mars. The manner, style and motivations of these expressions would, of course, depend on the Sign in question.

The key issue with Stelliums is one of balance. Individuals with a Stellium often find that they tend to devote a large percentage of their time and energy towards the types of activities that stimulate and allow them to express their Stellium, by both Sign and House. What is important, then, is for these individuals to make a conscious effort to find some balance and perspective in their lives, which they can do by choosing to explore the energy and activities represented by the opposite sign and house from their Stellium. This will tend to be easiest when there are planets transiting opposite the Stellium, although it can obviously be done at any time."

~courtesy of: http://therealastrology.com/HTML/FAQS/AspectPatterns.html

ah ha, so it IS "super"

Of interest is that some sites say it only counts with personal planets because of generational conjunctions, and another site says that Sun and Moon don't count because "stellium" means "star" and Sun and Moon are luminaries (which is of course completely stupid because the Sun is a star and the planets are planets). I liked the above interp best. So I shared.

Since we share the same passion for the Esoteric vs. the Exoteric astrology, I imagine you would be as intrigued as I am by this insightful link. In particular, the Libra Soul Ruler, Uranus.

Thanks all for the input.

The significant lack of fire, coupled with the strong passive/mutable sign influences could explain my inability to decide to do things for my own betterment. Being motivated by the needs of others is easy.

That seems to indicate a typical 12th House/Pisces lack of self esteem. Strangely, I don't feel that way consciously..in fact I love the things I write and do, most of the time. My company is sparkling to my perspective.

But..closer examination reveals a real lack of anything but..intellect behind most of it. There's a distinct "shadow" impression of the person behind the actions. i am small.

Rejection issues. Respect issues. A lifetime of defense against group assaults. (Seems to follow me huh?) Pluto/Mars in Virgo in the Eleventh? A drive to criticize the hidden agendas of groups and society?

Don Quixote tilting at windmills in order to avoid facing his own dementia?

Hi,

I just wanted to say something.

I may have been too vocal in my "dissection".

But I am just trying to help.

I do feel threatened by Daf,
as the crisis in his life now
reflects my own, to some degree,
and we are both approaching it
from different angles.

I do admire the maturity, discipline,
and conscientiousness of Saturnian types.

I admire deeply the spiritual aspirants
who submit themselves to rigorous practices.

And, for all I know,
that may be the next stage of the journey
for all sincere seekers.

And if Daf goes that route,
I will admire him even more than i do now.

But I have recently altered my self-image significantly.

I thought of myself as a seeker,
a teacher, a spiritual aspirant.

And I am those things, but,
more than those things, I am an artist.

And the identification with the artist archetype
has freed me from so much self-criticism
and rigid limitations in my thinking and experience.

Is this just another escape, a denial?

Is the true path the one that I dread?

The path of slow, rigorous, linear progress.

If so,

I am not ready for that.

Not in this life.

I am still a child.

And I know some of you believe without a doubt
that this is indeed the reality of my situation.

But I see so much possibility in this world.

And my heart has been filled with love
even more from the work of great artists,
than from the words of the saints.

So, perhaps I may fill more hearts with love
by being an artist, a voice, a wanderer, a mystery,
than I ever could as a spiritual "plodder".

And perhaps this is my path.

And who knows -
Perhaps we alternate lifetimes
in the world, and in the monastery.

Part of me feels like I have been there and done that,
and this is the next step in my soul's evolution.

I must pour out in sound
what I have received in silence.
I must empty myself in this way,
before I may return to the cloister,
to again be filled.

All these are theories,
and I know more earthy types cringe
to speculate on such matters,
and imagine such far-reaching ambiguity.
It frightens me, too.
But these things seem as likely to me as anything.
And they feel true, or, at least, healthful to my soul.

I think a lot now about soul,
and less about spirit.

Sometimes I think spirit will take care of itself.
Spirit is that inviolable part of us,
which is beyond distinctions, conflicts, etc.

Between the ego and the spirit,
the soul intervenes,
and demands our attention.

I have felt increasingly soulful lately,
and more in awe of the creation.

While my focus on spirit seemed to deny all things,
and put me in a place of perpetual negation,
fault-finding, and dissatisfaction,
my focus on the soul has restored the world,
and revealed the wonder of its wild vicissitudes.

Still, I doubt myself and all things.

And I listen for what others have to teach me.

I just wanted to make that clear,
for what its worth.

Daf, if your soul longs for that divine encounter,
and if you are sure that you have found the way,
and need only to develop the will to follow it,
then, I will not place stones in your path.
I do not want to do that.
I never wanted to do that,
and I hope that I have not.
I only wanted to share my perceptions,
which are frequently mistaken,
but, occassionally full of the deepest insight.
I trust you to take up or discard my input,
according to your own lights.

God bless everyone.

HSC!

I am overjoyed to find that you have come to understand your soulful rather than spiritual tendencies. You have indeed always appeared to strongly correspond to the artistic archetype. A thorough exploration of its peaks and valleys is in order. Keep searching. I have a feeling you will learn so much from this journey. I hope you will share with us a few of the gold nuggets I trust you will uncover.

God bless you, steve

it stood
isolated
Mark'd how to explore the vacant, vast surrounding
It launch'd forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself
Ever unreeling them - ever tirelessly speeding them.
And you, O my Soul, where you stand,
Surrounded in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing - seeking the spheres, to connect them
Till the bridge you will need be form'd till the ductile anchor hold
Till the gossamer thread you fling,

HSC,

Thanks for your words. Who could find harm in them? This is here for input, here for everyone or anyone to pipe in about our common exploration, mine or yours.

All are the same metamorphoses from different angles. These are echoes..mirrors. Talking to myself in your mirror. Being your reflection. My want is purpose. My need is comfort. The solution is God. The hindrance is me. We do what we can..day by day. The autologue has begun and that's what matters right now.

Thanks for taking the time, everyone.

From HSC's other reply:

"You cannot love everyone unless you love or have loved someone."

It seems a safe assumption that the above is true. What criterion, taken from this observation might apply to "You cannot love yourself unless.."?

That would be of great interest to know.

Could it be that:

"You cannot love yourself unless you know or have known someone who loves you?"

And could this be related to "attachment disorder" then, I wonder? Denying the love of those around in order to deny access or identity? In the face of hard evidence..am I denying the love of those around me and thereby hindering my ability to truly love myself emotionally? (As opposed to the intellectual way in which I "love" my words and works..?) How to begin tackling an issue like that?

I'm drawing a blank. I usually feel like a slab of meat that's doing things. Everyone else seems to be real..I feel like a prop sometimes, but it's not apparent to me consciously. Everyone else matters. Just recently I started taking care of my needs. I feel its heaviness. I wonder if it's important to continue though..

It seems normal to feel as though I don't matter..and yet consciously I don't notice. In my mind, I don't see me marginalizing myself. Perhaps the mind masks me from my lack of self esteem because of familiarity with and contempt for it?

Somewhere down beneath all of that..I also feel as though I want to love myself emotionally.

I want my efforts at self development to seem less like taming a mule in a fun house and more like having an adventure with my closest friend. Step by step.

No more for now.

HSC, lovely introspection! I believe Teacher is an apt archetype too.

The artist Teachs thru his/her medium and your lifes journey, shared by artistic words, have touched me and will teach many to be kind, loving and patient with self.

Introspection of the soul /nafs/ personality , is the path to awakening and living your Spirituality.

God Bless you.

His friend awakened him- the world and wandering molded him., July 12, 2006
By OAKSHAMAN "oakshaman" (Algoma, WI United States) - See all my reviews

_This is the story of two very different young would-be monks in the medieval cloister of Mariabronn. Goldmund was a lunar type- introverted, a thinker and a scholar. On the other hand, Narcissus was a classic solar type- extroverted, a lover and an artist.

_Yet, these two beings of seemingly opposite temperaments became the deepest of life-long friends. This is because different strengths- and different weaknesses- complement each other. In this way two unbalanced natures may in strange alchemy fulfill each other. They may be able to see their shadow in the other- and their pivotal conflict.

_It was in this way that Goldmund saw his friend Narcissus' central repressed crisis. It was this shattering revelation that drove Narcissus out into the world beyond the sheltered cloister. It drove him to a life on the edge as a life-long wanderer. He started in a search for his nearly forgotten mother and ended by finding the eternal feminine in all women. Yet the years of hardship and horror (including murder, the Great Plague, and prison) took their toll on him. When after over a decade of wandering, he finally encountered his friend Goldmund again it saved his life- both literally and spiritually.

_I could not imagine a more Jungian novel. Nor could I imagine a better expression of the meaning of profound friendship.

And a man said, Speak to us of Self-Knowledge.
And he answered saying:
Your hearts know in silence the secrets of the days and the nights.
But your ears thirst for the sound of your heart's knowledge.
You would know in words that which you have always known in thought.
You would touch with your fingers the naked body of your dreams.

And it is well you should.
The hidden well-spring of your soul must needs rise and run murmuring to the sea;
And the treasure of your infinite depths would be revealed to your eyes.
But let there be no scales to weigh your unknown treasure;
And seek not the depths of your knowledge with staff or sounding line.
For self is a sea boundless and measureless.

Say not, "I have found the truth," but rather, "I have found a truth."
Say not, "I have found the path of the soul." Say rather, "I have met the soul walking upon my path."
For the soul walks upon all paths.
The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed.
The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals.

A lot of the people around me really love attention. I mean, they don't ask for it...and they don't fight for it..but when they get it, you can tell how much they appreciate it.

This is working out well...if I can keep focus for long enough to get into the habit.

Attention is powerful.

They say children are more scarred by neglect,
than by any other form of abuse,
which may be true.

---------------------------------------------------------
This, however, is mine other manly prudence: I am more forbearing to the VAIN than to the proud.
Is not wounded vanity the mother of all tragedies? Where, however, pride is wounded, there groweth up something better than pride.
That life may be fair to behold, its game must be well played; for that purpose, however, it needeth good actors.
Good actors have I found all the vain ones: they play, and wish people to be fond of beholding them—all their spirit is in this wish.
They represent themselves, they invent themselves; in their neighbourhood I like to look upon life—it cures my melancholy.
Therefore am I forbearing to the vain, because they are the physicians of my melancholy, and keep me attached to man as to a drama.
And further, who conceiveth the full depth of the modesty of the vain man! I am favourable to him, and sympathetic on account of his modesty.
From you would he learn his belief in himself; he feedeth upon your glances, he eateth praise out of your hands.
Your lies doth he even believe when you lie well of him: for in its depths sigheth his heart: “What am _I_?”
And if the true virtue is unconscious of itself — well, the vain man is unconscious of his modesty!—
