Smoking KillsSmoking kills, smoking kills, Read the back of the packet, Smoking goes with your f-me heels, And it goes with your leather jacket You’re on a break with fags in hand, You idle bunch of poseurs, You reprobates, you charlatans, You load of bleeding losers Shall we have a premature Requiem? Smoking kills, smoking kills, And so it damn well should, You can take your vitamin pills, But it won’t do you any good, You’d have a shock, I guarantee, If you could see inside you Clogged with tar and nicotine, Grim Reaper walks beside you Cough, cough, cough. Oh. I’ve got a cough. I wonder why that is? Shall we have a premature Requiem? Why don’t you invite your folks? Twenty-pound notes turned to ashes, A hard day’s work gone up in smoke Smoking kills, smoking kills, It says in great big letters, You may well be over the hill, But that doesn’t make it any better Ditch the habit while you can, Or you will be a goner Take note of the smoking ban, And that includes marijuana Smoking kills, smoking kills… Smoking kills, smoking kills, SMOKING KILLS! I'm not sure if you'll find a kind audience in this forum, but I like it a lot. I'd like to hear the musical version sometime.IP: Logged |

I'm insinuating that there are some known smokers in these parts. IP: Logged |

"smoking kills"You promise? lol But, seriously... Does this come as a surprise to anyone? I suppose some could use the reminder, still, but, for the most part, we are adults, and we can make our own decisions. A cigarette is, among other things, a 25-cent way to disperse tension. For some people, it may be the only release they can afford, in a world where they are basically forced to scrape by on minimum wage. Nevertheless, I have to admit, it is a very clever poem. And I always smile when i hear the term "f-me heels". Thanks for sharing.

It's interesting that the idea of just scraping by comes up, because if my roommate were to quit he'd save himself $1825 a year ($150/month). Then he'd be better able to tackle his significant financial woes. No, I don't tell him this. I don't think he'd listen. I am going to attempt to move out prior to everything coming crashing down on him. IP: Logged |

quote: What do you spend your money on, AG?
The usual stuff. Rent, bills, food, entertainment, class, music, clothes. quote: What helps you to relax and unwind?
Being still. Cuddling. Doing one of my hobbies (photography, music). Listening to music. Exercising. Knowing that I've got things taken care of. Aside from this, though, I know from having smoked for over 10 years myself that smoking isn't merely a relaxation technique. Your first smoke in the morning isn't to help you relax. It's to help clear the congestion that's built up overnight. Smoking after every meal isn't a matter of relaxation either. Nor is smoking while drinking. There are mental/brain connections to smoking. The question is if the brain's needs are greater than the physical detriment. And if the brain really does need the nicotine to keep you balanced, then wouldn't the patch be a safer way to go? I can name a number of anxieties that I've relieved myself of by quitting, so I guess I could add being a non-smoker to my list of things that help me relax and unwind. I don't mind being put in the hot seat, the seat of judgment, on this subject. I still live with two smokers. My best friend and his wife are smokers as well. It's not a lack of compassion. I know how tough it is to quit. I've been through it on multiple occasions. I practiced until I got lucky and got it right. Quitting is one of the most satisfying things you can do, and you will be proud of yourself for years if you're able to give it up. IP: Logged |

I thought it was quite clever myself. It's nice because it's not another sicky-sappy lovey-dovey soulmate or love poem. (not that there is anything wrong with those!) You have great talent. Keep em coming. IP: Logged |

i think smoking already is very bad, but if one MUST, i say avoid cigarettes. cigarettes contain chemicals to let it burn at a constant speed, and other preservative stuff.hand-rolling tobacco is almost natural. i guess it depends on the brands too but it's not as dry as cigarettes and also CHEAPER! roll them with filters and very thin paper, you can try to minimize the damage. but still, it's probably better to quit anyway. You guys make me want a cigarette... I don't really smoke though, I quit six years ago... but I keep a pack stashed for when I want just the right accessory for my fu- uhh... f-me heels. :^D And other times when I'm feeling especially rebellious and naughty or just down right miserable. There are worse things I could doooooooo :^) I wrote something similar about drug addiction when I was 18ish. It was much more insulting. You mellow with time when you realize almost everyone is killing some part of themselves (mind, body, soul) and getting disgusted about it doesn't really do much. Not that I've gotten over being disgusted about things... just that I save my righteous anger for those who smoke with children in the car coughing their lungs up, beat their kids for playing with their pot stash etc... otherwise being annoyed with humans would be a full time job. Trust me. (Mercury in Virgo) You'll have to excuse me, I just finished a case study about someone who grew up exposed to AOD use (alcohol and other drug) in the home as a child, grew up as an ACOA (adult child of alcoholics/drug users) and I had to sift through the marvelousness that was her life during her abusive marriage, cocaine dependency, and the whole blowing her dealer for product thing. She had two children, 7yr old boy and 4yr old girl. Upper class. Kids diagnosed with ADD of course. Not-a-happy-evening. There is no way I could do the clinical stuff for a living. I would die of a broken heart. Oh, I was going to say that I still have "Frank" left to do this week, and I hoped he was a gambler, since that is one of our last chapters, but no such luck. Flip a page and what jumps out is "twin toddler daughters" and "previously arrested three times for drunken driving." Yay. Now you know why I'll be crabby this week. IP: Logged |

Well said. The way I see it, people are free to do as they please with their own bodies, minds, and souls. The question of being a bad influence on others is there, but it does not supercede the "influence" you are having on yourself. If you are willing to do this to yourself, then most other considerations are secondary, and I doubt whether any judgements from others, clever or otherwise, are going to make a difference. If you are already making yourself sick and slowly writing your own death warrant, I dont see the point in subjecting you to derision as well, in order to tell you what you already know. That's just my point of view. Go ahead and b*tch and fling self-righteous insults ("poseurs, reprobates, charlatans, bleeding losers") if it really makes you feel any better. We all have our less healthy ways of releasing stress. Some people smoke cigarettes (and hurt themselves) and some people write b*tchy poems (and hurt others). Say la vie!

Xena,Maybe you should stop using my lyrics in your songs? You never know how many of them were influenced by my drug use. And I know you wouldn't want to be a hippocrite.

No, Tink, sorry, I see how it could sound that way. It's a college class I am taking. I want to work with troubled teens, but not really clinically, although I have considered it. My class is Addiction and one book is called Substance Abuse and the other is a case study book. We have to sift through all of the information on the client and then write it up using these forms/outlines as if we were the worker. Doing the background analysis up to the diagnosis. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to say everything I just said in the above post if it were real. hehe Confidentiality and all that. Reading the chapter about children exposed to AOD use and abuse was really upsetting to me since finding a way to "soothe that atrocity" as I put in a college paper, is the entire reason I am in college. I've seen some sad things in my life. And I will see a lot of early deaths. Thank you, Steve. Well, I still love you, AG, even if everyone else thinks you suck... OH, just kidding, don't be so hard on yourself. What a good heart you must have.

Hats off to you, MM. The world could certainly use you. How do you shield yourself, if you don't mind my asking? How do not become a nervous, useless wreck in the face of these things?I don't think you suck, AG. I still don't trust you, but I like you. IP: Logged |
