in honor of my new modship of yellow wax and the ants i commence our first ever (at least since i've been here) poetry readings!!

Poems are meant to be performed and not read silently in your mind!!

share any of your favorite poems, you can just record your voice reading, or you can do a whole video (youtube) clip whatever suits you..

dont be shy of accents or speech problems, wrong pronunciations, trust me it doesn’t matter.. if anything it will contribute to what you are reading and make it more personal.. --English isnt my first language either maybe read somthing in your native language then post a translation that would be awesome

well T this is your chance.. u can record yourself reading in the privacy of your own room, no one around to make you nervous.. also you can do it over and over again untill you like what you hear then you can post it here so we can all enjoy

this is good practice for those who have public speaking issues..

Cool. I'm first. *nervous laugh*

I was just reading some when I opened this thread. I recorded it in photobooth, so I didn't really have to do anything.

It was Steiner... I think it was the part about the Representative of the Air Element.
I never read it before, and only doing 1 take.
And i'll never do it again.

I'll pass. I don't feel comfortable enough with people here.

It's still a fun and creative idea, I think.

Ooooh this seems fuuuun...I think I'll look for a Linda Goodman poem that I like and try ta read that!

I never read it before, and only doing 1 take.
And i'll never do it again.

Maybe I'll do that! One straight-through, emotional reading - no prepping and faking! Also why is there like, flashing lights all up in your video lol!

You have a nice voice, Venus. Perfect for readiing aloud. This is a cool thread.

See, if I were to do this, certain people here would be like 'OMG, she's so obsessed with herself! Ugh! Can you believe it!'

LOL

So, I try not to share too much anymore or express myself, even though the arts are my life and passion. It gets taken the wrong way, like I think i'm full of myself or something.

similar to:

Anyway, cool thread.

An old Gemini friend of mine used to recite this one:
(his dad made him memorize it as a child)

IF

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Rudyard Kipling.

thanks T,

i still insist on you recording yourself for us. i know i'll like it. hell, there's nothing you cn do to NOT make me like it. poetry is self expression, you can read the cookie monster song and still touch me.

that poem is lovely, gave me goosebumps! how insightful of the father to make his son memorize it..

red, im waiting eagerly

LOL @ the cookie monster song.

Well, maybe eventually when I set up a new youtube account. Right now I don't have one.

Yeah, it'd had been awhile since I read/heard that one and it gave me goosebumps as well.
