I'm trying my hands on short story writing but can't think of any groundbreaking ideas so far. Can anyone try and bugle their minds. I'll be grateful if anyone can suggest some ideas.

Thank You in advance.

I suggest you read the news and take ideas from there. This is what Dostoyevsky used to do.

As Ayelet mentioned the news would perhaps offer something ground breaking. I would imagine you could also search around Youtube...watch edgy, artsy, real-raw, tangible, avant-garde--'Day in the life' type media. Meditate on the images and see what underlying meanings unfold to develop a story in your own words and point of view from what you have grasped.

Music of course could be another avenue to explore lyrically and gain insights from --as it is a universal language relative to many at once- whether past, present, or futuristic, one could accent the diversity it offers culturally from stories found within songs.

If you're into more of a historical context to write from- you could catch some inspiration from some of your favorite classic short stories and branch out with a modern twist, breathing life into something old. Place yourself in a far-seeing visionary stance of evolution.

As well there is nothing like your own experiences and memorable stories to use as a source of inspiration. Sometimes readers really appreciate vulnerbilities within writing they can relate to on a personal level. Depending on one's life and environment, that could be ground breaking- eye catching.

Whatever it stems from the importance lies within writing stories from topics which uniquely spark your interests, that keeps you tuned in, and which you enjoy delving into and are truly passionate about. Find your niche. Therefore the momentum of the story will flow naturally.

Just some ideas thequeen.. hope that helps.

Thank you both foe your responses. I've a little meek in extracting words from my thoughts it seems. Yes music, personal experience and newspaper could be my muse. I've tried my hands on something, an incomplete story, which I'll keep coming back and updating as it crosses my mind. Please leave the feedback whether pleasant or not. Thank you so much again both for you suggestions.

Great suggestions above!...

How about your dreams when you wake up after sleep? Create stories from the dreams you have?

Something I like to use are 'the asteroids' in astrology. But you're probably not as into that as me. The asteroid meanings, combined with planets, houses, aspects, can conjure images or help you recollect very detailed stories.

Someone else used to use a box of words (on separate paper ~ or on magnets I think they were) and they'd arrange the words into loose story.

You could clip pictures and make collages from these, then describe. Make a story about your creation.

Another thing could be to take a walk, and consciously note things you see-- birds, children, insects, traffic. I used to love to watch people at the big airport... Watching how people greet each other-- so varied. You could make up stories about why they behaved like that. People-watch!

It was a dark and stormy night.... :rolling:

Have Fun~! and don't forget to share some of your paragraphs here?
