Beethoven

found Melpomene
so she said
let me tie this deaf-scarf
round your ears
and we will play
this game
of hide-and-seek

FromEast,
knowing some of his history the poem makes perfect sense, and I like how you slipped Melpomene in this.

yes...the reference in the poem is to the fact that Beethovan towards the end of life grew deaf...and yet continued to chase the Muse of Music

There were several Muses of Music. Melpomene was associated with tragedy and theatre. It WAS very tragic that Mr. Beethoven went deaf in his physical ears, but still wrote down the musical scores to the music he heard in his Imagination.

He wrote his famous Ninth Symphony while deaf!

(music) Ode To Joy (clip from movie Beethoven's 9th, with notes) [7:47] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fQG4CcoRuM

His music still inspires us today. Here's my favorite modern version of song Ode To Joy!

(music) Joyful Joyful (Sister Act 2) [4:34] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nUa280OiVM
