The Mariner’s Epitaph

I hear the calling across the sky
Beyond the land of the waves
I must be one with the ocean
Is it my calling towards the light?’

Don’t know where or why
The echoes in the sea call my name
Is it the calling to the heaven’s door?
How much I will endure?

I hang my head and cry
Wondering if I will see the light
Dear god, in spite of my mortality
Shine a light on me

My body slowly disobeys me
My soul wants to be free
The sand slips off my hands
My time here will soon expire

Death is not the end they say
A newborn child is on the way
I can see it in the reflection
In the waters of oblivion

The seagulls make their endless flight
Singing their immortal lullaby
I’d soon follow their path
Towards the brilliant sun

Melancholy, yet beautiful in its own way.
