Can anybody tell me the meaning and, myth of this bird?I feel that it has something to tell me, or that the meaning has something to do with my life, you know? Anyway, I was driving home on a bus from Boston, and for some reason I looked up at the sky, and saw this gigantic cloud shaped exactly like a bird. It automatically made me think of Phoenix, and I was stunned. I really feel that it was trying to tell me something. -StarLover

Hello there Star...What little I know of the legend of the Phoenix... A mythological (?) bird that is associated with the element of Fire. She lives out her Life (500 - 1000 years depending upon the authority one consults), and then builds a nest of frankincense and myrrh that becomes her funeral pyre. From the ashes, she rises again, reborn! The Phoenix has long been a symbol of transmutation, transformation and a symbol of Life eternal and unending... a symbol of the human Soul, advancing upon the Wheel of Life. Hope that helps some... Blessings... A ------------------ "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." - Antoine de Saint Exupery, The Little Prince IP: Logged |

Mazz ... how do you associate it with Leo? I am not saying you are incorrect. I would just like to know your logic behind it.I associate the Phoenix with Scorpio and Pluto because the Pheonix rising from the ashes is definitely a Plutonic theme (rebirth). Always like to hear other people's opinions. Much Love, Heidi IP: Logged |

In the same vein, Mary Summer Rain wrote a wonderful book titled "Phoenix Rising" about the earth changes to come. It equates the events on earth with the Phoenix arising (birthing) from the earth to finally stretch her wings over it to purify . It covers the stages of birth ie contractions, emerging, eyes searching, listening, breath heaving, wings flexing, the wailing, talons tensing, crouching then flying free over a cleansed earth. Each stage mentioned covers a period of earth time before the purification. It`s a wonderful book and it will send you spiraling away! juniperb IP: Logged |

Well Firstly I have read-over the years ,and I think a few times, an association of leo with the pheonix,so it's not my theory alone and I'm picking up on an idea I've already heard.Linda mentions leo and talks about a 'fall from grace',surely the other polarity of this should exist?a pheonix rising from the ashes. I didnt mean to be dismissive of it's association with Scorpio which a lot of us are probably familiar with and I think is valid. I associate Leo with the sun, constantly moving, burning away yesterday's residues and creating anew, like the solar waves emanating from the sun,and I see this as an example on a smaller scale of a phoenix like energy. When you picture the phoenix in your mind's eye is'nt it made from that same fiery substance that the sun is made from? I dont want to go on about it too much, maybe something like the pheonix is something every one could experience and be familiar with and it's too 'big' to assign to any sign alone. IP: Logged |

Thanks Mazz, I love to hear other people's perspective on things. I had never heard of it myself being associated with Leo, but that definitely makes sense.Heidi IP: Logged |

Eastern thought places the phoenix as the celestial match to the dragon. When these two get together, good times are fortold for humanity. Also it is associated with the cardinal direction South. It is considered a lucky symbol, especially if it's placed in the southern portion of a house or room. In the US, at least, the best, closest bird representing it is a pheasant. Also, as you've seen, being told it rises from the ashes this is western thought. At any rate you can check out this symbolism of the East in any Feng shui book. In particular look for Lillian Too. She's great on the subject and makes it least complicated. Hope this was helpful?! IP: Logged |
