Hi Star...

When someone spells magic with a K I generally don't think wicca (or witchcraft) so much as ceremonial magic.

Magus... I haven't had occasion to make my own incense, but I know there are good books out there on the subject.

My experience with actual ritual is fairly limited, though I am fairly well versed in the procedure; I have found that I get equally good if not better results through active meditation. Or as Linda would say: the Image/Ordain/Manifest process.

But, having some Fire prominent in my nativity, the IDEA of ritual, with all the show and trappings, is pretty appealing!

Best Wishes in L.V.X.

Aselzion- Yes my practices are more of the ceremonial sort. Meditation and "image ordain manifest" the secrets of 10 are a great way to practice Magick. For me the whole ritualistic ceremonys have always helped me to image! Sort of gets me in just the rite state of mind to bring the desired efect into being.

As far as Magick with a k. I recomend i be spelt like that no matter what brand of Magick is practiced. I first came acrost that speling while studying Crowleys work. Then I looked into it and found that indeed it is the most potent spelling for Magick we have in our english language. I even used the kabal to verify this.

Magic only come out to 12 and 3. Which at best is a word of ideals.

Magick come out to 14 and 5. Besides 14 having significence of listening to that inner voice, as well as elemental atributes, 5 is of course the single number of Magick.

On the subject of sspeling for potency, Ive found that the only thing that the Jehova witneses have to be more acurate then most is there choice for what to call God. YAHWEH is indeed the most potent name for the source of all life and nature!

Randall-Sandalwood is in alot of the incense recepies I have come accrost so far.As well as alot of frankincense.

Thanks again to everyone,

Shawn

I always distinguish magic (stage illusions) from magick (any brand of the real stuff). *pulls rabbit from hat*

By the way, ABRACADABRA used to be part of real magick.

I've tried doing a little ritual magick but it's been difficult for me to attempt it, becuase of my catholic upbringing. But I believe in it wholeheartedly.

Have you tried casting a circle? What does it feel and look on the inside/outside? Some people say it's really hot on the inside, and fuzzy looking on the outside. Really works!

Hi Randall....

Yes, but it's a bastardized form of a Hebrew word or phrase I believe. One of the uses is as a charm to break a fever... I used it once when I was taking a weekend workshop and felt sick as a dog.

You write it in an inverted pyramid shape, and with each row, as the letters decrease, so does the temperature. It really worked for me!

Like so:

...A...B...R...A...C...A...D...A...B...R...A
.....A...B...R...A...C...A...D...A...B...R
.......A...B...R...A...C...A...D...A...B
.........A...B...R...A...C...A...D...A
...........A...B...R...A...C...A...D
.............A...B...R...A...C...A
...............A...B...R...A...C
.................A...B...R...A.
...................A...B...R
......................A...B
........................A

I Hope this comes out the way I intended, I always have trouble trying to format things like this for some reason. But I think you'll get the general idea.

Blessed be and...

ABRACADABRA!

My main advice is to test burn any concoctions before you use them in ritual since you may be surprised and actually not like how they smell when burning. Incense should set the mood and attract the proper entities/whathaveyou, but if the smell is offensive and you are not trying to accomplish an offensive action, then it may slightly distract you.

Usually one of the old standbys are all that are necessary--sandalwood, dragon's blood, frankincense, myrrh, HJC, etc. Also, resins can make a difficult to remove melted lump in whatever you are burning it in.

I've had the real thing (i.e., pure resins) work for me as well as the scented type that flares up on the coals purchased from a hoodoo shop--so it all boils down to your own personal power, intent, and how you use it, really.

Aselzion- "sub umbra alarum tuuarum YHVH",,why does that sound familiar? Because Ive been spending the last 4 or 5 years learning about and practicing so many different topics of the unknown I havent been wise enoough to focus on only one or two subjects at a time. This has left me still impotent in being versed in the vareos langauges of Magick. Sadly all I know are a few egyptian, hebrew, and arabick phrases of ritual and conjering. Not at all enough to go about using these most potent tongues. As substutute I just use old english or modern english spelt bass ackwards! It served me well enough this far. I think its time to put more focus into this one one study though.

Randall- Yeah, I dont remember where I came acrost it , Crowley had made use of ABRACADABRA as well. I remember finding it enlightening and amusing while reading of it.

StarLover33- No I havent realy had a use for an actual circle yet. Soon though. Especialy when I start practice to summon and speek with specific entities and dieties [ENKI , NINHARSAG, Gabrial, Michael, and eventualy RAH himself}.

Im not sure what the inside of the circle shall look like. I supose however I image it to be?!

Harry Potter schools,HHHHMMMMMM. I couldnt imagine to many things more wonderfull!!! Especialy since trying to learn and study these arts and sciences on my own has been so slow in progress. Lonely as well it has been. The more I learn and the higher my soul progreses ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, seems the more alone in a new world I become. Ive never wanted to mold into this rediculously blind and mortal world around me, yet at times it has provided me with companionship and good hearted company. I believe a time is soon neer that Im going to have to miss all of that for a long while - to be able to continue this.

moth- Test burning, yeah a quite a few peaple and books Ive been consulting for advice on the subject have always recomended test burning a sample amount before making a whole batch.

Powders I will probably make for most incense made for divination and ritual purposes. Cones for prayers of all diferent sorts. And probably sticks for seduction and other social experiments, there the most convenent for me to carry around.

What sorts of practices have you used incense in moth?

Being a Pisces, and being very idealistic, it would be a dream come true to see a Harry Potter school come to existence. But also have it intertwine with basic school knowledge! I would also want it to be a dormitory kind of environment so that teenagers can grow and stay together!

I know it's strange to even fathom...but I think it could happen! Especially with all the small children absolutely in love with the idea in the books. So maybe I'm not that foolish.

I think it might happen within the century! All the children being born with Neptune in Aquarius...ABSOLUTELY!!

Greetings...

"Sub umbra alarum tuarum, YHVH."

"Under the shadow of Thy wings, Jehova." (or Yahweh)

This was the closing statement of one of the Rosicrucian Manifestoes, the Fama Fraternitatis, I believe.

In L.V.X. Eternal...

I use incense in all planned magickal endeavors. By that I mean where I have the time to think about and gather all the appropriate items, write a well-thought-out chant/intent (so to speak), pick the time of day/night/hour/moon phase, etc.

Unplanned magick is the spur-of-the-moment, if I am not at home, something that needs to be whipped up quickly or I am not alone and would be interrupted if I started the whole formal procedure. At these times, I will more than likely not use incense.

My practice is folk magic, mountain magic (spiritual), with a hoodoo flavor. I don't delineate between white or black magick--I believe it all to be neutral as is nature. As for what incense I have used for which magickal endeavor, I don't remember since I don't write it down, but I have used all kinds. High John the Conqueror and Dragon's Blood are two of my favorites; however. Both add power/potency to any rootworking/spellcasting--no matter what type of work is being done--they are considered both neither good nor bad, just add strength and power to whatever you are doing. I use Myrrh and wormwood for the dead and spiritual work.

I don't know but I appreciate quick and simple magick. Perhaps that is why I could never be a true wiccan.

Image-ordain-manifest! The greatest spell I've ever learned.

The word "MAGIC" in my opinion, would be more powerful becuase it is ruled by 12 and 3. But we all know it was taken to mean stage magic and fairy tales.

Isnt the love energy the strongest form of magic?

In that case you wouldnt need any tools, just your heart and pure intent. Having said that Magus, I really love incense, patchouli, sandal, frankincense and I burn essential oils too. I am going for a massage tonite and will blend a mix of ylang, patchouli and sandalwood, very sensual and earthy. Shame the therapist isnt a man LOL !!! Or on second thoughts perhaps its just as well she isnt!! xxx

patchouli alone can useualy be madening enough alone for me.
