I've noticed that it's very difficult to do a reading for yourself. I guess your emotions get more in the way so the cards become muddled and unclear. For instance I'm 16, so today I went to go get my permit and will start classes on August 4. Which is definitely not my favorite numerical date. I'm reluctant but decided this number isn't so bad. Maybe someone here will let me know if it's perfectly fine. So instead I asked my cards how I would do during the classes. And unfortunately I got the 10 of Swords which upset me and I knew I couldn't be so bad. So I did the it again and again! I ended up using to many cards and also this card would show up as well. After awhile I realized that my emotions were hampering the reading. And figured that the card represented my fear or insecurity that I'm going to be a bad driver. But it's not an actual prediction, perhaps it represented that I am bit scared to drive. I don't know what do you think it means Aselzion? Do you think August 4th s a perfectly fine date or should I change it? I don't really want to. Methinks this is all because I'm scared. IP: Logged |

Hello Star...WOW. Someone sure managed to put the fear of the 4 into your head. Let's look at some famous 4's, shall we? The 4 Archangels: Raphael, Michael, Gabriel and Auriel The 4 Directions: East, West, South and North The 4 Seasons The 4 Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John The 4 Fixed Signs in the zodiac: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius There are more, but I think you get the point. And of course it represents the cube, a solid foundation upon which to build. None of these things are negative. 4 is logic and reason applied: science if you will. So why not start your driving classes on a day designed to ensure building and adding to a firm foundation? 4's and 8's do have their negative connotations as well, all of the numbers do - even mystical 7, but why dwell on those unless you are constantly increasing their power? Used judiciously they are good for material pursuits, and what more material pursuit is their than learning to drive? For all we can say that 4 is Uranus, which rules modern transportation like airplanes and super trains and stuff... 4 is also the Earth upon which we live and move and have our being. As long as we build on SOLID FOUNDATIONS. Hope that helps a wee bit. Fear Not and... Blessed Be... You bring up an excellent point. When we do readings for ourselves or even others our emotions, fears, experiences,or ego can definitly get in the way. I've done a form of divination where I would get extremely accurate responses only to find they never came true. I was projecting my fears and got the exact answer I was fearing reflected back in my reading. I now know when I do that type of reading it will most likely show me my shadow side and I can say "Oh so this is what I'm fearing." You might try easing up on yourself and just doing your best as things come. You can control how you interact in the class - and that's the best determiner for how you will do in the class. I've found that I need to avoid what I call "victim" questions when I do a reading for myself. These are questions that ask how something will turn out -- assuming I have no control over the situation. For instance I might ask will I get fired from my job? or how will things turn out with me and X? If we are proactive things will turn out exactly like the energy and attention you give it. So instead start asking questions like What is the next step I need to do in this class? If the 10 of swords turns up that means perhaps you need to avoid overworking and enjoy the class more. Or ask what is it that I'm avoiding seeing in this situation? Ask questions that help you make decisions of how you can proceed with your life or an event. Here is a spread that I do that works wonders. card 1: Present reality card 2: challenge in the situation card 3: seeing the bigger picture. (or if you were to zoom back from your situation and take a look at it what is the obvious thing you'd see.) card 4: letting go (this is a tough one at times to determine.)What do you need to stop doing or it may mean what you need to start doing. You've got to figure this one out. card 5: Future I am to live into now. This means what type of actions--(actually doing) you are to take in the direction of this card. If a negative card comes up you are to take the positive approach So if 9 of swords comes up you are to do things that keep yourself happy joyous and whatever needs to counteract the negative message of the card. It is telling you to avoid those behaviors. card 5: what comes from inside of me? What internal skills, personality, problems, joys etc. do you bring to the situation? card 7: What comes form outside of me? help from others, stuff unrelated to you from others that are brought to the situation card 8: message or gift for this situation. starlover, I'm surprised that you are 16 years old. You sure know alot more than I did when I was 16 (6 years ago). That just goes to show that age is just a number. IP: Logged |

Once your body passes childhood for reproduction, the mind can act as mature as it wants. Puberty is the only transitioning point, after that it's all a matter of free will and experience. If you saw me you wouldn't be able to guess my age. You would think I was even more younger. Some would say I'm a good canidate for immortality.-StarLover IP: Logged |

Kat, Thanks for putting up your spread idea. I am new with Tarot (2 years) and I have started many spreads from a place of fear, asking what will happen, what will the outcome be, etc. I think this will help me use the cards in a more helpful fashion IP: Logged |

Just to put my two cents in here - I don't ask "questions" of the cards, I ask only for guidance and understanding of what will be shown to me. I tend to let the cards tell me what situation I should focus on, or if there is a specific situation I am looking for guidance with I think in general terms about it, no "Is this going to happen?" or "What do I do about this?" True, you may have to spend a little more time analyzing and deciphering the cards, but I have found that the answers are actually much clearer most times, and I have a better understanding of what I was actually asking about.Blessings to all.
