What does the King of Swords mean if it appears in a Celtic Cross as the "Base of the Matter". I was hoping for some clarification, as the description my accompanying book gives isn't clear (as applied to the position), nor is the symbology on the card face.

Also, if the querent asks whether they will have a child, (no spread, just question + card) and the Death card is pulled, would you say that indicates that a the birth will transform the individual, the individual must be transformed prior to getting pregnant, or some variation thereof?

Finally, if the High Priestess appears in the #9 position, and the querent is a man, what would that indicate? That he needs to get in touch w/ those parts of himself, that he hopes and fears those things?

Just looking for some clarification.

Thanks!

Greetings...

Isis...

I do not use the Celtic Cross spread, I feel it is too limiting FOR ME. As Linda said about the Placidean House System, it resulted in "inaccuracies in interpretation" for me more often than not. But if it makes sense to you, by all means, use it.

In terms of the King of Swords in what you call the "base of the matter"... it could represent:

1) A Gemini, Libra or Aquarian (man) or that one of these signs might be prominent in his chart.

2) That the matter is grounded in logic and reason. There may be education needed or communication will in some way be an issue. Perhaps there were negative words or communications at the base of the matter inquired after?

BUT: I don't know your original question AND I would ONLY EVER USE that spread (if I did use it) FOR a VERY SPECIFIC QUESTION.

In terms of the Death card coming up when a person asked a specific question and drew only one card...

Well.. IF the card were upright to the reader, that might hint at a positive outcome.

Has this person HAD a child already? Could that be the transformation implied by the drawing of this card? (going from being childless to a parental role)

In terms of your final question... again, i do not use the Celtic Cross... it makes no sense to me... but again, if it seems helpful to YOU, by all means use it.

However, I can't help but think that it ISN'T very helpful to you, otherwise you would not be asking questions about what these specific cards mean in those specific positions. Make sense? And I might suggest that you try a more organic approach to reading the cards.

By this I mean that The Celtic Cross kind of forces one to look at specific cards in specific positions thereby limiting the intuition of the reader.

If you were just to have a question and turn over say a single line of 7 cards or 5 cards or even 3 cards, your intuition would be much more apt to flow with the symbology of the cards.

That being said...The Priestess can mean that the person needs to be open to receiving information from the subconscious/psychic or dream levels. It may also imply that the person fears they do not have the information they think they need in order to answer their question or attain their goal.

Just some thoughts...

Hope that helps a wee bit...
A

That does help greatly, thanks!

You know, I have always had problems interpreting the Celtic Cross - I thought it was just me. I do a lot of free-form spreads for myself, but the few times I do a spread for friends or family I do a Celtic Cross (probably because often that's the only spread many are familiar w/ so that's what they're expecting). I think I may change my methods though.

Thanks!
