Hi,
I just posted this question in the wrong forum so sorry. Anyway, I just did the the nine spread ex. that La-tee-dah recommended. The card that came up for me was the Queen of cups reversed. I know that cups signify love and emotion. What does the Queen of cups signify reversed?
-Thanks-

I know many people here will be able to respond to you with more intuitive and insightful posts, but I will also share an interpretation from one of my trusted sources, "Tarot Unveiled: The Method to Its Magic" by Laura E. Clarson.

quote:
The Queen of Cups (Nurturing)
Reversed Meaning:
Here, the Queen of Cups is over-emotional and too easily influenced by sentiment. She is naive and vulnerable, often gullible. She is a sucker for a sob story and may be used mercilessly by manipulative people. She is friendly but superficial in her dealings with others. Her lack of good judgment and discrimination makes her easy prey for any hard luck story, without regard to how deserving the other person is if help and assistance. She does not draw upon her instinctive feelings about people, but becomes the surrogate mother for any and all.

I hope that doesn't sound too harsh or is rude for me to share. I've received this card to represent me a couple of times and felt that way initially, but when I looked at the situation in hindsight, I could see why this card would be appropriate for me at those times. Blessed Be!

Greetings...

Well as you already got your answer, I can take a day off!

I'm all for learning from books, but as I say, there's a special thing that happens after many years.. and now the Court cards of any suit are NOT ALWAYS people for me.. they can represent situations particular to their suit as well... so it isn't always as clear cut as the people cards really being people!

But if that interpretation meets your needs... I am pleased.

P.S. Of all the books out there, I think she did a great job, and I have that book in my collection as well! She also discusses card combinations for particular subjects at the back of her book, and I thought those were fairly insightful as well.

Aw, come on now, Aselzion, I was really looking forward to hearing your insight into this card.

I also agree with your assessment of the cards not always relating to people ... in my case, this card cropped up a couple of times in situations where I couldn't deny they reflected me personally, and also the card appeared in the 1st position of the Celtic Cross spread. However, I have also had the pleasure of listening quietly within to hear a message that the people cards may be trying to relate when they appear to be inappropriate or out of place if they only ever refer to people.

I agree that this book is a good one, particularly for learning or a basic introduction. It was my first book on Tarot and I hold it dearly in my heart. I realize the deck isn't necessarily the best "beginner" deck, but I struggled through some of the symbolism and, when I did look into the Raider Waite deck, for example, the symbols were then easier to understand and tap into. So I'm a little backwards, lol!
I also really enjoy the back section of this book. I can't say I've memorized all the combinations, but I do find them applicable when I remember them or look them up later.

BTW, I don't really frequent this forum as much as I'd like so I don't know if you've mentioned this before ...
Do you think it's a good idea to keep track of the readings you do? I don't do too many and I like to keep track of them to have them as a reference guide but I haven't heard of too many other people that do this.

Eleanor....

Well... I do not keep track of my readings... MY BAD.

I have done so many if I tried to keep track of them all, I'd never do anything but read and write.

Laurie Cabot, the "official Witch of Salem", wrote that she used to write down her readings in her Book of Shadows when she was new at the Tarot... but she also has given up on this over the years and with all the numbers of readings she does, it would be an impossible task.

But, at the beginning.. I do believe that it would be a wonderful learning tool!

I'm just not always that disciplined!

Blessings...

Thanks for the replyl, Aselzion. I also think they have their worth if you have time to do so. I've been writing them down for about 10 years although I point out again that I don't do them all the time or for too many people. Nevertheless, I've had a number of incidents pop up where people ask me, "remember that reading you did ... what did it say about ...?" and I've been able to look it up for them. In retrospect, it is quite interesting to see just how accurate the Tarot really is. I've also gone back to readings that I've done for myself where I thought that I was being biased or reading them to see the outcome I wanted or even being just totally lost on the message .... and then noticed just how accurate and applicable those readings were.
