Greetings...I think in this case things look alot worse than they really are.
If you notice on the card, the woman, though hoodwinked (or blindfolded) is NOT really tied to the swords, and there is an opening directly in front of her, if she could but see it.
What this says to me is that she is NOT tied to her problems (swords) or emotional conflicts, but only FEELS that she is. She is blindfolded, and cannot at present see the truth, that all she needs to do is walk away from them.
In the midst of all our worries, things seem to be worse than they really are, or to resort to a cliche, we can't always see the forest for the trees...
Now the question is: who put the blindfold on the woman?
Now in Tarot the central figure in the cards is usually a representation of... US! So, when we feel as though we have no options, we literally pull the wool over our own eyes. Literally blinding ourselves.
Now.. 8 is a number of Saturn as Linda taught, and so this card can be a picture of delays and frustrations brought about by not looking directly at our problems...
So, when this card is reversed.. the way is open, the blindfold is removed and we can take the necessary steps to free ourselves, or see our way clear, if you will, of our cares and woes (swords). Pressures are released and we can start to take control of our fears and work with them rather than being bogged down by them.
Make any sense?
In the Light...
