Aselzion, can you help explain the true meaning of the 8 of Cups, and most of all the 8 of Wands? In my opinion the 8 of Wands is the most difficult to define. I can't stand that card. -StarLover IP: Logged |

Greetings...The Eight of Wands... I kind of think of this card as a Tarot version of the planet Mercury. It represents news and communications. Letters, faxes, e-mails or phone calls. Just that simple to me. I determine what the news is about by the cards around this 8 or by the preponderance of suit cards in the spread. This card can also represent travel by air. Some people call this card the "arrows of love". I'm not sure what this means, just passing it along - it never seems to mean such a thing in my readings, but perhaps if there were loads of love cards or Cup cards around it may take on that meaning... but I'd probably be more inclined to think in terms of love letters then. Usually when I see this card, I think of communications moving quickly, or also a good time to take advantage of offers and opportunities that may come along at this time (if all other cards surrounding agree). When this card is reversed, it's kind of like Mercury retrograde. Delays in communications, playing phone tag; "the check is in the mail" sort of thing. Now would be a good time to re-evaluate new ideas and documents prior to signing on the dotted line. Can also just mean delays. Eight of Cups can represent a turning of the back on a situation, a relationship or an emotional issue that has been a cause of turmoil. It's sort of like Divine discontent. Here the querent is so sick of a situation or waiting for something to appear that they want to give up and move on. It can be a general feeling of "something ain't quite what it used to be or what I think it ought to be." Emotional withdrawal from a situation is indicated here. It's not the wounds and tears in ending a relationship that the 3 of Swords represents, but more a case where things just haven't been going well, and the view is not promising for the future of the situation... now that is not necessarily the Truth of the matter.. but it IS how the querent FEELS about it. Depending on other cards in the spread may mean turning the back on material pleasures/possessions for a more spiritual approach to life. When this card is reversed it can mean a cause for celebration. New growth is possible in a situation that may have been stagnating for a period. Sometimes, if the surrounding cards also agree, it can represent parties, weddings or fun social gatherings. That's about what I see right now... any other thoughts? Blessings...
