Did you see Joan of Arcadia tonight? If so, what was your take on the ending?

Hey Randall...

I did see it. I have it on Tivo and will have to watch it again... I'm not sure what I think about it at the moment.

But I will say that looking at the scenes for next week.. I got a little teary eyed; it reminded me of my old fav Touched By An Angel. (the hazards of being an Empath!)

I'll get back to ya on this one. What did you think?

Blessings...

P.S. I get a kick out of the fact that Roma Downey and Amber Tamblyn are both Taureans!

There seemed to be a subtle hint at past lives at the end.

Greetings...

AHHH! Yes... that was interesting.

It made me smile... when I first looked at the picture I was seeing Adam in a beard and Joan with the curly do...

I think that the writers/creators of this show, like TBAA, have their antennae up and are open to the inspiration from on high.

I dunno, maybe I'm just a corny old mush... I want to see Adam and Jane (err, Joan) together.

I love the way they portray God most of the time on the show as well. Gotta love that walk-away-and-wave move that each of God's incarnations uses to end their discourse with Joan. It cracks me up! But I'm a sucker for a running gag.

Off to bed, worked last night.

Have a great day...

He says, walking away and waving over his shoulder!

Blessings...

I don't watch the show, maybe I should. But I do remember Touched By an Angel.

You can catch them in reruns this summer. It's an amazing experience.

CBS every Friday night at 8 pm EST. It might not make sense until you get to know the characters (very deep character development). John Ritter's son is on there.

Greetings...

Randall, did you know that Jason Ritter was also in Freddie vs. Jason?

Star, I think Joan of Arcadia is certainly worthy of consideration. As I said before it seems that the writers are inspired from Above. It's in a different sort of way than Touched By An Angel, but I think it's on par with its message. God is all around and talking to us all the time... the question is: Are we listening?

Blessed Be...

Oh...I love Joan of Arcadia!!! Even my ten year old son likes to watch it, and usually if it's not animated or reality TV (oh such reality) he won't watch it. I saw an interview with some Christian denomination pastors talking about the show right after it came out. Some didn't like the fact that God was portrayed by different actors in such mundane settings. ("God is all powerful, all knowing, Holy and Great" or some such.) Most of the ministers, though. liked it just for that fact - bringing God down for the people and not allowing us to get one set image in our heads as viewers (anyone remember George Burns?)since God is no one thing yet all things.
Thank you for reminding me the season finale is this week. Have a good one!

I hope no one saw the finale as their first time viewing it. It was missing its usual charming qualities. Very weird episode! My least favorite by far.

Greetings....

Randall, I know what you mean, it could easily be taken out of context if that were one's first encounter with the show.

I have to say, I was disturbed by it... but at the same time, I think it is fairly representative of a crisis of Faith and a Dark Night of the Soul.

Also, like TBAA, this particular episode left me sobbing like an idiot.

Interestingly the very human Joan, Knows that she has been talking to God, but circumstances have conspired to shake her Faith. Here she walks that fine line of Knowing that is the Gift of the Angels, and Believing which is the Gift of humanity.

My great Hope is that they reconcile the appearances and the Reality at the beginning of the new season... which could open up a new set of possibilities for Joan in season 2.

It is interesting to note Adam's reaction to Joan's admission.. and his apparent missing of the moment, when she presented him with the picture in the previous weeks episode.

It will be fascinating to see where they take this.. there are great possibilities here to help numbers of people overcome their own crises of Faith if they handle it correctly.

As an aside, if anyone saw the series finale if Angel.. it was an utter letdown and made me feel that the whole series was a waste of 4 or 5 years. Someone needs to give Joss Whedon a slap to the side of the head!

Blessings...

Smallville's season finale was shocking. They always promise a dooxy of a cliffhanger, and they haven't failed to deliver yet.

A, what's your take on the three-legged race scene? Was that the Devil, or was she just hallucinating? And what about the multiple incarnations at the hospital? I'm thinking that they were all hallucinations, except the twin girls in the restroom and (of course) the visit at the very end (where God touches her forehead).

UGH!!! I missed most of the show ( we're still working on remodeling the bathroom and my father decided Friday was a good night to do it), but I did get to see the last 20 minuted or so. (My son was able to watch most of it.) Crisis of faith, what's real and what's not, Consolation and Desolation. Isn't that part of the reason why most of us visit this site? How appropriate.
I can say I know how the character of Joan must have been feeling at the end. As a PK my crisis of faith as a teenager hit harder than anything ever. I can only imagine what it would be like if I had heard God talking directly to me. Oh well, wait for the season premier next year and all will be well. I have faith!!!

Greetings...

Hrmmm.. the three legged race; honestly I'm not sure. Hallucination or reality? And, in that context what would be the difference?

Personally I don't believe in a Devil other than the one that we humans created. That being said: every time someone thinks about it, prays to it and kills any living thing in its name it adds power to that Devil.

We exist in a plane of duality. No good without evil, no hot without cold. The Law of Polarity exemplified.

Did Joan see the Devil, or was it an hallucination? I believe the same purpose was served: to make her question her Faith, which as God told her in other episodes is her Gift.

It was her Faith that helped Adam to believe in his art. It was her Faith that brought her father and brother together to work on the boat and find a new connection. It was her Faith that helped the piano teacher to find her love of music again, and her Faith that helped to ease the burden of the single mother with the dying child.

My hope is that her Faith will see her through the Dark Night; and truly, would there be a show to watch if it couldn't?

So, it was funny to me that the vice principle got to be the Devil! He certainly behaved like the Devil. So I guess if it looks like a cow, and moos like a cow and give milk like a cow... MOO!! Who better to personify the adversary, than the person who has been most adversarial to Joan throughout the show?

In terms of all the Incarnations... well, why NOT? God isn't limited to ONE manifestation... I'll have to look at that hospital scene again. I'll admit to being a bit distracted by my own emotional reactions to what was happening. So, again I thank God for TiVo.

In the Light...
A
