Just re-discovering this forum - great info and practical advice.
Question - what method do other tarot readers use to interpret time frames, aside from spreads that direct towards present future, more specific like 'this will happen in the spring' etc.?

Greetings...

That is a great question... too bad I don't have a GREAT answer.

Honestly I think that timing with the Tarot is ambiguous at best and impossible at worst... and I think alot of that has to do with the fact that our Time and God's Time is counted so very differently.

In most cases I would look at the cards themselves for clues. Some examples would be:

Six of Wands: Decemberish, around Christmas time. Note the wreath hanging from one of the wands. Wands represent the Fire element, Sagittarius... December.

Eight of Wands: implies a quick change or things happening quickly, unless it's reversed, in which case it implies delays, much like a retrograde Mercury.

Fours of any suit: represents a timing element is required before whatever can come to pass, none of the 4's imply swift action. But 4 of Cups reversed can mean that things that have been delayed or in suspension will be moving shortly. 4 of Swords is kind of like: stop the world I wanna get off! I need a vacation, some alone time... reversed it can mean that one is ready to get back in the fray, but after a rest period.

3 of Cups: this can indicate timing if you note to which of the 3 sisters your eyes are immediately drawn. They seem to represent the seasons by their various costumes. In the Morgan Greer deck, this is especially predominant if you look at their headdresses.

In general: Fire (Aries, Leo, Sag) = Wands
Earth (Taurus, Virgo and Cappy) = Pentacles
Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) = Swords
Water (Cancer, Pisces, Scorp)= Cups

Note also the NUMBER of the card that draws your eye.. are there many cards of a particular number? Ex: many 2's could indicate 2 (months, days, years) - depending upon the nature of the question.

Needless to say.. there is no ONE easy answer. It takes, time and skill to learn to do it, and even the best of us aren't always GREAT at timing. I've had every predicion I made for a particular person come true... 2 years after I had read for them! The Universe has a perverse sense of humor!!

So.. look at your cards, see what they "tell you", and see what "makes sense". And when all else fails remember, there is NO TIME in the psychic realm! Send the person to an Astrologer. Astrology is a sister art/science to Tarot, and much better suited to accurate timing than Tarot, in my not so humble opinion.

Best wishes and Blessed be...

Greetings...

No problemo. I don't love doing readings online, but I do love to talk about Tarot any time I get a chance.

Blessings...

My way of working out timings isn't as comprehensive as A's, I always just counted out till I got an ace and then stopped at the 13th card and did this till I have 3 piles of cards and then say the Ace Coins - winter, Ace Wands - summer, Ace Cups - spring, Ace Swords - autumn. It always seems to work - hope it helps you!
