I use a lot of spreads from "Complete Book of Tarot Spreads" by Burger and Fiebig. There are spreads in there for many situations.IP: Logged |

Hi Jupiter, this is my tried-and-trusted most-used spread: 1. What do I know (eg. situation)? 2. What don't I know (eg. something hidden)? 3. What is my challenge? 4. What is the suggested action? 5. What is the outcome if I follow that action? I hope you enjoy it. with love purple_scorp IP: Logged |

Keep it simple, I always say: Three cards--Past, Present, and Future.------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll IP: Logged |

And, of course, the shuffle until one card jumps out--which is no spread at all. ------------------ "There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll IP: Logged |

I like this four card spread - 1st card on top, last three lined across under the 1st card.1. what is going on 2. what was of the past 3. what to consider 4. suggestion of what to do i also like the past, present, future - and sometimes, if you are just in a funk and totally confused, you could shuffle the cards and all in the midst of the frustration and start turning over the cards one after the other - as if you are having a conversation with the cards, you see? it's really cool. also, if you want to, you could shuffle the deck the night before and every morning - just flip the top card to get a jump on the day. i also like to notice numbers on trucks, buses, etc. (where-ever my eyes may fall) and consider what the sum number is trying to say for that moment. p.s. purple_scorp - i'm going to try that spread out - thanx IP: Logged |

I like simple spreads, however, I am also a huge fan of the celtic cross spread if I have a MAJOR issue.A couple of my friends love the horse shoe spread, I think that is also a popular one. Anyone heard of the four card spread? I have used that a few times...quite good. I'll post it if anyone needs it.

Hi Jupiter,I do vaguely remember seeing that somewhere. There is a book or a website that has a spread based on each Major Arcana card. I can't remember which medium it was - I just know that I wrote down four spreads in my own personal journal. (The Magician, The Star, The Moon, and Judgement.) Try googling it and see how you go. with love purple_scorp IP: Logged |

Greetings...Personally the only spread that I use on a regular basis is a simple one that is very free-form. I lay out 3 rows of 5 or 7 cards in this fashion: 7....6....5....4....3....2....1 <---Past 14...13...12...11...10...9...8 <---Present 21...20...19...18...17...16...15 <--Future This allows my intuition to follow the cards without trying to impose a "place meaning" on the card. If I do want to apply a "place meaning" to the cards, then I will do a Horoscope layout, and read the cards in relation to the Astrological Houses: 1) The Querent: State of Being or Physical Self of the Client, general Health and/or current circumstances. 2) Finaces, earned money or what the Querent places Value upon. 3) General Environment, communications, issues related to querent's brothers/sisters. Also could be CARS and modes of transportation. 4) The Father. The Home, the physical/emotional environment that constitutes the Home Life. Can be Real Estate purchases. 5) Querent's children. What the querent does to have fun. Romantic involvements (aside of marriage or commited relationship - i.e. affairs). Sex in a general way. Can be luck or the LACK of luck in Gambling or speculation. 6) Sickness. What attacks the Physical body. Mundane surroundings on the job; co-workers. Can also relate to pets or small animals. 7) Marriage or Committed relationship. OR Open enemies; that which opposes the Querent. Partnerships in general. 8) Other's money. Death issues: legacies, inheritances. Also Spiritual Alchemy and Transformation. Deep psychological issues. Sex in a deeper way than the 5th. Sex as a pshycological issue, rather than the sheer physical act (5th). 9) God, and querent's relationship to their concept of a Higher Power. Can be travel, but more long distance. Dreams and their impact on the querent. 10) Career. Reputation. The Mother. Goals that the querent would like to achieve.. Life Purpose, in a manner of speaking. 11) Friends. What the client Wishes for. Hopes. Generally good luck and fortunate circumstances. 12) Hidden Enemies. What the client may do that brings about or creates his/her own problems. Can be Hospitalization or something that makes the querent feel confined. The Power behind the throne or where the querent's scars can be tranformed into strengths. Again though, sometimes trying to impose a specific "place meaning" on a card can be limiting in terms of its possible interpretations. Hope that helps a bit. In the Light... SunChild - Yup / that's the one - I think that can be a four card one like sort of like the one we do and then there is the 5 card one where the second card actually is an added factor - what I don't knowso, it'll be 1) what i do know 2) what i don't know 3) something to consider from the past 4)something to consider for the present leading which will impact the future 5) suggestion or factor to consider IP: Logged |

i found some really cool spread yesterday that I can't remember the name of but it was really good - it to contact someone who has passed over - you have to think in terms of what would they sayYou pull two cards for "family" the first card will give you how they think you regard it the second card will give you their suggestion/thoughts You pull two cards for "love" the first card will give you how they think you regard it the second card will give you their suggestion/thoughts Then there is other - as in what they think is important to you the second card there will be their thoughts on it So - all together that is six cards. let me know what you think.
I tried it last night - it was really really good IP: Logged |

When I read for myself or a client I've read for many times, sometimes I like to design a spread tailor-made to the specific question, so I feel the reading will tell me exactly what I want to know. First I brainstorm, writing down the minute details of everything I/we want the answers to SPECIFICALLY, and then I pull a card for each sub-question.I would recommend this for readers who start feeling "stuck" with their spreads or like some of the positions are too vague. It started with the Celtic Cross variation I used to do, when I would pull an "other people" card...it was just too vague! When I'm reading for someone I don't know well, in person, my intuition is always spot on, so if I have vague card positions I can still draw out lots of true information. But when I read for myself, I get clouded by confusion and desire and it helps to replace the vague ("Other people in the situation") with the specific ("What does Jon REALLY secretly want in this situation, and why?") I'm working with this spread, right now... The Sacred Days of Yule. http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art26918.asp This spread will help you to learn to apply the tarot to enjoy and enrich your passage through the twelve festive days from December 20th to 31st. The meaning of each card in the spread reflects the energy of the festivity associated with each of the twelve days. 1. Mother Night of Dreams: - Dec 20th This card reminds us to look for a particular message in our dreams tonight. The ancients believed that our dreams on this night foretold some of the important events in the coming year. 2. Yule - Winter Solstice: - Dec 21st This card shows us how best to connect to the Light within and without - it symbolizes the Birth of the Sun. 3. The Time of Beth: - Dec 22nd This card points to the inner blocks and resistance that is holding us back from following our dreams. 4. Hopi Time of Renewal Dec 23rd This card indicates the best way for us to seek purification and renewal, and to build tolerance for others. 5. Feast of Mothers, Christmas Eve: - Dec 24th This card shows how we can connect with the spirits of our ancestors for communion and to ask for wisdom and guidance. It is also a time for Christians to reflect on the birth of Christ. 6. Festival of Life, Christmas: - Dec 25th This card shows us how to connect directly with Spirit. 7. Yuletide, Kwanzaa: - Dec 26th This card shows us how to express nurturance, to attend to our families and to express the protective energy within us towards others. 8. Birth of Freyja: - Dec 27th This card points to issues of love, luck, artistic and creative expression and female wisdom. 9. Feast of Alcyone: - Dec 28th This card gives us a personal inner message - one that speaks directly to our heart and spirit. 10. Day of Nymphs - Dec 29th This card encourages us to connect to our playful side, our inner child and how best to cultivate this aspect of ourselves. 11. Day of Rest: - Dec 30th This card shows us how to walk our path in a relaxed and confident way....with the ability to deal with stressful situations in a philosophical, detached way. 12. New Year's Eve, Hogmanay - Dec 31st This card shows us how to release the old and let in the new. This relates to both our external lives and our inner being. IP: Logged |

Hi Lavlee,I suggest starting out with simple one-card readings. Shuffle the cards to get used to the feel of them, spread out the deck, ask a precise question, pick one card and turn it over. First, write down your intuitive responses to what you see in the card in terms of your question. Then, look up the card's meaning in tarot guides (or online), and/or in the booklet that came with your cards. I always try to get very familiar with a new deck through one-card readings before moving on to bigger spreads. And it's great, if you're using a pretty classic deck similar to the Ryder-Waite tarot, to go to the library and get a few different tarot guides with different meanings listed for each card. Those books will also guide you through some good tarot spreads. IP: Logged |
