I have no clue about this.

I know that tarot readers very often interpret certain cards as people: their star sign, age, relationship to querent, even appearances.

How?? I mean, which cards represent who?

Also, why do some readers need date of birth? I thought it helps them to connect to the person they're doing a reading for. But what if you don't have psychic abilities? Do you still need dob?

Thanks

Wow...
Let me start by replying that Tarot reading/understanding cannot be described in just a few short sentences. There is SOooooooooooooooooooo much depth to it. If you are genuinely interested in learning, may I suggest this link:

The Magic School offers all of it's courses free of charge as well as giving you a thorough a fun learning experience.

As an example of what you may learn:

The card Justice is related to the sign of Libra, which has as it's symbol a blindfolded woman holding a set of scales, the quintesential symbol of impartial justice. Libra symbolizes the striving for balance in all things, and by extension, relationships, whether personal or abstract. Libra, the seventh sign of the Zodiac, has a strong love for whatever is harmonious, from love to the arts, and presides over both marriage and aesthetics. As an air sign, Libra is mental in nature, and represents one on one partnerships and contracts such as marriage and legally binding documents. Libra rules the signs of Venus and Taurus.

Using Tarot to assist you in Meditation....
Choose a card that represents your inner conflict or spiritual being. For example, if you are experiencing lots of chaos or failure, choose The Tower, place it in front of you or hold it in your hands while you meditate or pray.

Or ~ choose a card that represents the state you wish to reach... such as Strength.... hold it while you meditate, affirming to yourself that you are capable and strong. Carry it in your pocket to an interview or through a day that might be potentially difficult. It will serve as a reminder to you of your inner strength, or of whatever inner state the card represents.

Using a "Significator" in a reading....
before doing a reading choose the card that represents you in your current situation or mental/ spiritual state of being. Meditate on this card as you shuffle the deck, and as you do your reading.

These are some interpretations of The Major Arcana when used as a significator -

I know yourfriendinspirit answered most of your questions, but I don't know if she answered about the birthday. Most readers add up the birthday until it becomes a number that is below 22. Then they draw that numbered card out of the Major Arcana cards to represent that person and draw their energy into the reading. It's not necessary but most readers prefer it.

Hope that helped.
