My sweet boyfriend bought me the Thoth deck for Christmas. It's funny because we never even talk about how I do tarot, and he never seems to pay attention to that part of my life. Then he ends up buying me a new deck for Christmas, and one that I've been wanting for years at that, when I never even told him that I liked it.

ANYWAY, I was wondering what you all do for your new decks. Do you smudge them? Use oils? Cleanse them? I usually just sleep with them under my pillow for a night, and shuffle them for a really, really long time. That's about all that I do.

I wanted to try something new with this deck though, so I wanted to know what you guys like to do.

i don't actually do very much with mine..aside from shuffling them and using a spread to 'interview' them - just so i can see what type of deck it is and get a feel for it

Funny you say that... I did an interview spread for the first time with this deck. I had never even heard of anyone doing that with a new deck until I found a spread for it on another forum.

how did the interview go? i came across an interview spread elsewhere too...couldn't believe i hadn't thought of doing it before! i then went and interviewed the decks i had at the time - much was clarified!

I know me too! I couldn't believe that I hadn't done one before either. I write tons of spreads for myself and everything, and it never once occured to me. I plan on doing it with my other decks at some point too. It basically told me on my Thoth deck that doesn't like reversals but also that it will help me with my spirituality and devloping my intuition better.

I just start working with a new deck to put my energy into it and see how the deck and I work together.

I'll cleanse a deck if someone else has handled it or if it feels "off", but with a new (storebought) deck, I just start breaking it in.
