Hello.. I've always been interested in Tarot cards. Had a deck once but ended up throwing it away because I couldn't understand it.
Is there a simpleton's instructions out there or if anyone knows of another forum that addresses this...?
Very interested to learn, mainly for myself at first, until I get it down...or if I get it down lol..
Thanks <waves>

Just use the internet.

Ask a specific question of the tarot.

Pull a single card.

Google that cards meaning and read the interpretations.

That's a great site SunnyMavericks. One of my favs. A scorpio sun with a leo rising, zesty!! I like that combination.

Try writing down what the cards represent, writing helps to learn, or say the meanings out loud! The more modalities you learn in, the better you will learn it.

Thanks BlueRoamer. It's a weird combination in some ways, but it's fun too! I have read your readings on the other thread, good work. I like them because you incorporate astrology.

Anyway, LovelyOne... the best way that I learned was by practicing. I did readings on myself almost daily because I was nervous to do them for other people, and then I did it for my friends, and once that got easier I did it professionally. But I am still learning. So the point is, practice makes perfect.

If you want, you could do a reading on yourself, post what you think that it means, and I would be happy to help you if I can.

Thanks for all the help, what kind of deck is a good starter deck..to learn from?

I'll keep in touch with what I learn, very fascinated by it.

Dear LovelyOne,

The forum that Azalaksh posted the link to offers the opportunity to discuss decks and participate in Tarot Reading Exchanges with other people.

This is often the best way to learn. To do a reading for someone else that can offer you feedback.

If you indicate that you're just a beginner, they will go gentle on you and offer lots of help.

K, I'm confused...
Didn't we have or rather why don't we have a class right here in this forum? As the Forum Description states:

quote:

Through The Looking Glass
Tarot, Kabala, and other forms of Divination, including prophecies and predictions; everyone is welcome to join in on our free interactive Tarot Class (Moderated by Linda's friend, Aselzion)

I do teach Tarot via scheduled workshops, etc. I imagine there are are many here who also are at this experience level... So what's the deal?

Anyways, If you have a particular question, problem or issue while studying feel free to send me an email, I'll be more than happy to help. I don't visit this board a whole lot so I may try to devote a bit more here too as time allows.

LovelyOne, A deck is very personal and you will literally feel what deck is right for you by shopping around and handling them.

For purposes of learning I like to suggest The Ryder Waite Set as it is so widely used across the world and printed in most every language

There are also a great selection of books out there based on interpretation of this particular Tarot deck.

Both the deck and book can be purchased quite inexpensively. You may even find a Ryder Waite set in which you color the cards yourself. I highly recommend this as it teaches you quickly the deep meaning of each card as you meditate through the coloring process.

Whatever deck you chose, just be certain you feel connected with it. Make sure they are comfortable to your hands as well. Some prefer large decks while others choose to work with round, triangular, or mini decks.

You should be prepared to set aside serious study time. In an environment that free from stress, clutter, and distractions.

Greetings...

I had originally started a course of study here, but there were several issues that arose:

1) The interest seemed to be more about getting readings than actually learning Tarot.

2) My job situation became increasingly stressful.

3) My own studies were put to the side for a while having to deal with the death of my mother and my unruly not-the-brother's bad behavior and monetary machinations ate up inordinate amounts of my time.

4) Sad to say, I had become increasingly drawn in other directions for more illusory Time than I had anticipated.

That having been said, my own interest level had waned based on many of the disturbing goings-on in other Forums and they even began to manifest here in this one for a Time. Frankly I was weary and saddened by the BS that I was observing.

From time to time, some of the older Tarot related posts were brought back up to the top, but no one seemed to be interested in pursuing the matter, so I let it slide.

Though I love the Tarot for many reasons, I do not love doing readings much anymore for various other reasons. Despite my request to keep the "Reading" threads to a minimum, people are very fond of opening new threads for personal reading requests. As Linda did, I found this to be unhelpful and distracting.

My own interest in Tarot as means of "fortune telling" has really declined, and I am more often disposed to look at it in a different Light, as more of a tool for Spiritual Growth and Spiritual Alchemy. But unfortunately, that was not the level of interest I was seeing expressed while I was putting up "lessons" if you will.

I hope that explains the lack of new material, but I find that I am in a different place now than I was when I first came to LindaLand.

Bright Blessings...

A

Thank you Aselzion for that insightful and honest response

I was rather curious...

I completely agree that it's difficult to get to the good stuff if you have to weed through piles and piles of request threads.

I also prefer to use Tarot as a meditation tool rather than fortune telling. It's deeper symbolic meanings and energies are often lost with those dabbling so quickly as they tend to do.

The site Jade mentions above is an excellent source for learning and studying Tarot. It encompasses great meditative techniques for both the first time explorers and the most advanced!

I did take the Intuitive Tarot course they offered and was pleasantly surprised. Not only was it a great refresher course but it intrigued me enough to bring back some excitement I had felt many many years ago when first learning about Tarot.

The course is a go at your own pace ordeal. You follow lesson plans and return assignments. You are graded on these assignments and encouraged one on one with your teacher. Final exam time comes round and you are hooked up with another student doing their final and readings are swapped for one another and graded by the student. Also a professional reading is done for a teacher by you. The most difficult aspect for most is the amount of journaling required in order to proceed to the next level. I loved the tests along the way almost as much as the great encouragement received at the end of each assignment. This is a certified class and you will receive a diploma/certificate upon actually passing the course. I believe it takes anywhere from 3 months to 2 years depending on the time commitment you make.

What a lovely thing to say about the course Intuitional Tarot. Thank you so much! I love tarot and love passing on what I have learned to others. I don't know your "Name " Smile but that is OK too, yes you can work at your own pace I have some who finish in 2- 3 MOS some have been at it for 2 yrs now it all depends on your schedule. I believe we should bring our intuition to the cards and read what we intuit from them. We all have intuition its just allowing it to flow. Again thank you I try to be very active with my students and reading this really made me feel so good thank you so much Jade

Aselzion, maybe it would make sense to have a separate subdivision on the Lindaland forums (other than this one), for those who wish to offer free readings of all kinds. This forum could be kept for those wanting to discuss divination in general or to learn skills.

To me, it's frustrating to weed through a many-pages-long thread with over 700 replies where all of the free readings are mixed together, and it would be easier to work with muliple short, recent threads...they could be dated, in fact. For example: "Readings by Lucia23, February 2008." All questions requests in February could be entered and answered in that thread, and once it was March 1, new questions could be put in the "Readings by Lucia23, March 2008" thread.

Another way to structure it would be like the dream forum, where each poster could write in what they wanted a reading on, and whoever felt compelled to answer could throw some cards (or crystals, or runes) and weigh in.

Many great knowflakes generously offer their time and skills to others, and I think that it's an activity that should be encouraged, not discouraged! Moving it to email takes away the anonymity that I'm sure many of us value here. More organization would also help more readers feel comfortable joining in...

With clearer forum headings and guidelines, those who are interested in learning more about divination skills and discussing the spiritual/transformational aspects of divination could chat and share knowledge in one forum, while those who want to give or get a free "does he love me? what should I do?" sort of reading could frequent the reading exchange forum...people like me who are interested in both could do both.

Greetings...

I think that would be something best left to Randall to determine, as he is the WebMaster here.

I am not opposed to such a shift, I would personally love to see all of the reading requests whether they be Astrology, Tarot or whatever removed from the general Forums.

If he feels such a thing would be of benefit, then I am sure that he will open a Reading Exchange Forum. I will mention it to him.

Blessings...
