I'm not really sure what prompted me to really, the other day I just got an urge to buy a deck and couldn't stop thinking about it. I got the Rider Waite deck because I heard it is good for beginners, though the bookstore had probably 40-50 decks to choose from. They keep them in a locked cabinet though, and a clerk had to watch me while I browsed, so I couldn't really handle them to get a feel for them. She said they've been having a problem with people stealing them, has anyone heard of that happening? There are a lot of pretty decks I saw online but I think I'll just stick to the basics for now. I'm going to try to borrow a copy of a Tarot guide book from a friend tomorrow (or maybe they even have one at the library. Well, I don't really know what to do with them now. I've been carrying them around and shuffling them to try and get them to pick up my energy. Maybe I'll go through each card and record my impressions. I have some expereince giving readings, doing energy work, and having spiritual visions and channeling in meditation, but no expereince at all in Tarot. I'm hoping it will help me develop my psychic/intuitive skills. So in other words: Hi, I'm a totally newbie looking to learn what to do next! IP: Logged |

Hello Shankara; Yes, I have heard of people stealing tarot decks, it is pretty common here. They are kind of expensive, and people do steal items of value, but sad none-the-less. The store I buy mine at keeps the empty box on the shelves and the cards behind the desk. So you can only look at the box and read the back of it, but you cannot handle the cards unless you ask the clerk to see them. I should add that this is a used book store I am talking about, the BIG chain book store that I sometimes go to, keeps the whole thing; cards, box, and book behind a glass case. Anyway, the Rider Waite deck is a good one to start with because you really dont NEED a book if you don't want one. The pictures are very clear and depict what the message of the card is. Then you should also decide if you want to read reversals. Some card readers do and some don't. Personally, I change my reversal card policy depending on the deck. Anyway, I wish you much enjoyment and knowledge with your new cards!IP: Logged |

Thanks for your reply, Gypsee. I did end up borrowing my aunt's Tarot book but haven;t read it yet. I visited the learn Tarot site, and in one of the first lessons it advises you to go through each card and get your impressions before looking up the meanings in a book, so that's what I'm doing now. For some reason I just love my deck and love having it around me and looking at it and holding it. Kinda weird...IP: Logged |
