... It seems to always give me the answer it thinks I want. I don't trust it anymore.

Sorry, I'm just venting

In the mean time, are there certain ways of making sure the pendulum is being truthful? Any meditations or such?

Try looking away while asking the question, and then don't look at it, until it's in full swing.

i tried with many pendulums and its always like i got the answers that i wanted
then i tested it, i wrote yes and no, flipped the cards over and then checked for it
the answer was different from what i wanted but my instincts told me not to trust it
i gave up on pendulum, i know its the oldest form of divination, but it didn't work for me.

Gypsee - thank you I tried that last night but I think I was too tired. I had taken a sleeping pill a few hours before as I'm having trouble sleeping, and it was beginning to kick in so I was a bit drowsy and couldn't concentrate at all... so it didn't work, but will have to try again when I'm feeling a bit better (have a slight upcoming migraine now so I'm not exactly able to concentrate now either)

lovebeingAries: as it stands now, I'm afraid the same goes for me. And I always thought a pendulum was an easy way to get straight answers.

i would like to add that i made my own deck of cards after that
it has 40 cards, and they are working pretty much well for me. e.g m planning a vacation and it gives me TRAVEL card every time i do a reading for myself
when i did past, present, future spread, it gave me hope and faith in past and LOVE in future
i did for one of my ill aunts and it gave "HEALTH" card in future for her.
i did for a friend who is having a divorce case in court, and it gave "DEATH" card for her present, death for my deck means ending of something...

so i would suggest why don't you work different methods and m sure if you have an ability in you, you will definitely find something that works for you, if not a pendulum.
m going to give a try to cartomancy with playing cards next

Unlike other forms of divination, I feel the pendulum answer comes from your subconscious, so maybe it is telling you the outcome you can create?

Well, the answers my pendulum gave did kind of coincide with a card reading which I did for myself of which most already came true. the last bit should be coming about now, the time span my pendulum also agreed on.

But I do find myself thinking what if my subconscious influences the answers and lets the pendulum say what I want to hear? (Which isn't exactly what I wanted to hear because it would overcomplicate things and somebody might get hurt and it won't be me... And I don't like hurting people). It would be kind of like a self fulfilling prophecy then: two sources have said something along similar lines and there is circumstancial "evidence" (others' readings) which supports it.

I am giving the pendulum the benefit of the doubt and will be trying again when I can fully concentrate on it. If it turns out to be right then perhaps the more "conscious" steering of the pendulum's answers could be ignored, but I'm not going to follow it. Rather the cards and we'll see if the additional info given by the pendulum turns out to be right.

Why do I always keep on giving everything the benefit of the doubt?

Anyway, the pendulum I have looks pretty cool too. I keep it in a velour bag, but it's kind of oxydized. I actually kind of like the oxydized colour but I'm not sure if THAT could also be influencing the answering capabilities of a pendulum. I hope not, because I like it that way - the colour that is.

You mean it's rusted?

Well, not really. The change of colour does come from overexposure to air, but it isn't rust. The pendulum used to be silver, but now it's kind of coppery.

I do suspect that the pendulum was sprayed with silver and that it was originally copper, or something like that, though.

You can also try using the opposite hand, as in not the hand you write with.

I get what you are saying though, I've had pendulums tell me what I wanted to hear before that didn't happen.

I've had crappy quality pendulums, and good quality pendulums, and ones I made with a ring on a string!

The research I read about it talked about how your brain sends the signals to your arm muscles, while you ask the question...
even if you are completely balanced and so forth..
But, we can't really stop those teeny tiny microscopic movements, which are in essence suggestive of our consciousness (in my humble opinion.)

So, this is the reason why I've tried looking away and using the opposite hand,
just to further reduce down the chances of
myself influencing the outcome.

(cartomancy is great, btw, awesome! can't go wrong with numbers, I'll tell ya.. they are pretty darn straightforward)

@ lovebeingAries..
I used to have a card book set.
It was the best book on cartomancy I ever read.
I got it at borders, it came with a deck of cards.
I wish I still had it, but it has gotten lost along the way..
HOWEVER...

I did find this one little book that I use sometimes, it's called, 'The Fortune Telling Book- Reading Crystal Balls, Tea Leaves, Playing Cards, And Everyday Omens of Love and Luck.. by Brown Little.

You could always just convert what you know about numerology into the cards, then all you'd have to memorize is the suits.
Hearts signify love, friendship, and domestic matters, they are happy cards.

Spades for the most part symbolize difficulties in life, such as sorrow, treachery, and infidelity.

Diamonds denote career, money, and travel.

Clubs allude to business.
