Me, I booked relatively good results years ago when I did this for others in the hospital I was at, and had some good spreads which hit home with others later on.My confidence got a hit when I was in a faith crisis regarding divination and threw everything I had of my cards and "manuals" away, and it seems to not have recovered since when I read for others. For some reason, for myself, I have never been able to really interpret the cards and I often feel that the cards I draw for myself are always off. This brings me to why I ask this question: I was thinking of offering small readings in the personal readings section as a means of practice and getting feedback, but... I usually had a good feel of the person sitting across me, I always let them cut the cards too to give some of their energy, but for on-line I'm kind of scared that it will be the same as for myself: totally no connection and off cards. So how would anyone go about avoiding this? I have heard of meditating or going in the "zone" (in alpha, or something, if I remember correctly), but those are very hard for me. I'm not sure if a picture would work because it's a still which usually does not depict the person as they currently are. What methods work for you and why is this? And, what would you prefer to suggest I try? ------------------ [Insert catchy signature here.] IP: Logged |

I personally don't let anyone touch my cards.I shuffle them myself, and close my eyes, usually I chant the person's name or names as i shuffle, and ask the cards a specific question like "Does John and Jane have what it takes to make their relationship work"? or so on.I kinda go in to a little dizzy spell as i close my eyes, and when it happens i feel i have "connected" to the situation.Than lay out my spread, and read.If your having trouble interprating its good to check out the basic meanings for the cards, and attach an emotion or feeling to the meaning, rather than a detailed scenario.Like the sun indicates happiness and comfort, joy and laughter, death would indicate your feeling changes, and going through a transformation, the tower indicates feeling at loss,or experiencing shock depending on how you interprate it.Attach a emotion to the card, and look at the reading as a whole and connect the dots. You really have to get creative sometimes and let your intuition put the peices together, rather than depending on the cards to do all the talking. It might help to try practicing with just the major arcana for now,so you can get back in the swing of things. When you feel your making progress, you can label your cards with the emotions you feel most closely represent that card, and use it for your quarants.A lot of cards have similar meanings,so if you feel like putting together some cards you know well, and taking out the excess that might help too,as 72 can be a bit overwhelming to remember and connect with.Just find a comfortable balance for yourself that you feel confident in.What works for you,may not work for someone else, its all about how well you feel joined with your cards i would say.If you feel uncomfortable you have to make a few changes to a point where you feel in control again. Thank you starzy I only use Lenormand cards, so that's only 36 cards I have to worry about. Still, it would be good to practice on giving emotion to the cards. Thanks again ------------------ [Insert catchy signature here.] IP: Logged |

with the Lenormand cards, I am just months old,i will write what i do1) i started with daily draws. 2 cards each day. and look up in the book. if it matches anything from my day, i assign my own meanings. if it still doesn't make sense then check the directions of people or pictures (clouds or scythe etc). it usually gives some info 2) when you are comfortable, start drwing three cards. then read in combo. 1st+2nd, 2nd+3rd. 2nd card is the center around which the situation revolve. 3) Now i draw 5 for my daily draws. they usually confuse me more, so i'm thinking of going back to three. it worked for me for many weeks. 4)don't rush into 9 cards or Grand Tableau unless you are really confident. honestly speaking i have found Treppner's course really useful for combinations and for basic technique too. Its available here http://www.treppner-kartenlegen.de/index.php?id=189 you will have to translate because its in German, but this course is excellent. IP: Logged |

I could also practice my German but no, I think translating will be easier! Thank you aries! You're right about the not rushing into grand tableau. I used to do readings with that spread but that is exactly the spread I find I have the most trouble with at the moment, even though my common sense urges me that I've done it before so why shouldn't I be able to do it now? I was thinking of practicing on here with 3 cards only though, grand tableau is too time consuming to interpret. Since it is really where I should start at the moment (the meanings of the cards singled out is no problem, although I could meanwhile try to practice with two ) I might as well just go and do it. With the added disclaimer that it is purely practice and should not necessarily be considered a genuine reading! Leaves me now is how to focus on people when they are on line rather than sitting across from me. I'm kind of apprehensive about asking for pictures. ------------------ [Insert catchy signature here.] IP: Logged |

Yeah, I wouldn't ask for pics, alot will not give them anyway.I've read on here for people before and what I do is, have the laptop in front of me with their thread open. I sort of stare at their words for awhile, because their words, their writing contains energy. When I feel "right" I just go for it. IP: Logged |

I was assuming they weren't in the room, as in online. Yes, if they are present, let me touch the cards by cutting them. IP: Logged |
