There is no ONE way to do Tarot, any more than there is one right way to do anything.

We all do either what we were taught or learned from books, teachers, classes or as you say, from "the gut".

Personally, I just ask the person to shuffle the cards if they can, if not I will spread them on the table and ask for a certain number of cards, based on my intuition.

If there is a specific question I will let that guide me. If not I use a general layout that consists of anywhere from 15 (3 rows of 5) or 21 (3 rows of 7) cards.

Kinda like this:

FUTURE....PRESENT... PAST

5...4........3......2....1 --- PAST
10..9........8......7....6 --- PRESENT
15..14......13.....11...12 --- FUTURE

I can never make anything line up here, but you get the idea.

That is only MY method.. you have to do what feels right to you.

My only rule is, there are NO rules.. or there are only the rules that YOU MAKE.

I think I spent one too many lifetimes as a Hebrew Priest/qabalist/Chaldean, somthin' somethin'. I tend to work the reverse of most people.

I read the cards like a line of Hebrew text from Right to Left, past to future. But that is what works for me.

I try to remain adaptable, because you never know when the OPPOSITE might be true! As I say, the older I get, the more I find the less I KNOW!

In terms of Tarot, there are people who really, truly read the cards. For them it is a science. They can use a spread like the Celtic Cross where each placement in the spread has a specific meaning. Of an occasion, that will work for me... more often than not, the STAFF part of the Celtic Cross counfounds me! In very specific circumstances it has worked beautifully with a well defined question.

What I like about being more free form is you can see how the cards inter-relate. Also I look to see WHAT catches my eye. Does the Red Cross on the Judgment card mean a medical condition/hospitalization? In some readings it does.. in others, the trumpet may catch my eye: the person is a musician! Plays the trumpet?!?

Does the glove on the hand of a character in the Tarot mean protection, or possibly deception? It will depend based on what cards are near it, but also.. what do I "hear" when I look at the cards.

Does the wheel on the Chariot show motion? Or might it be telling me to have the person check their tires? It all depends. So there is NO one way that ALWAYS works.. for me.

P.S. I think you also know how your Gift works. I tend to HEAR or FEEL more than I SEE. Some people may not feel they have a Gift, but they KNOW the cards, and they can read rings around me if my intuition decides to have a holiday in Hawaii!

Well, in that case I can say only practice, practice, practice.

After a while you will get a "feel" for when your intuition is online and you get many direct "hits" vs when the intuition is taking a break, and then the only thing you can do is just "read the cards".

Practice will give you a "generic" meaning for each card in the deck, whether it is a Tarot deck, an Oracle deck or a deck of playing cards.

It helps to know some Astrology, so that when all else fails, you can place the cards in a circle of the 12 houses and read each card as it relates to the House Position it holds!

You will learn, over time, that God gives us what we need, when we need it... and often times if a reading makes no sense to YOU, it WILL make sense to the person for whom you are reading. If it does NOT, then perhaps NOW is not the time to do a reading.

And generally, I do not advocate reading one's own cards. Mood will then play heavily into your interpretation. On occasion you will get uncannily accurate readings for yourself... but generally it is best to have another person read for you.

It takes time and practice! You WILL get there, if you really CHOOSE to do so!

Be kind to yourself! Doubt and fear and frustration drive intuition out faster than anything.

Read everything you can find about Tarot, and then just DO readings for anyone that will sit still long enough!!

I just looked at your screen name again... Aries DO learn FAST, but they don't always appreciate a long term investment to "get there"!

Like Veruca Salt in Charlie and the Cocolate Factory, Aries wants is all... NOW!

Monumental yes, but it becomes do-able if you divide and conquer, as it were.

As I say, I am most interested in Manifesting this convention. So let us Ordain it, and it shall be! (It has already been Imaged!)
