I think what you notice is that he's trying to detach himself from you/the situation. He seems to be looking critically at the potential of your contact & (at least for now) I think his conclusion is that it's too difficult like this. Ergo: not much future in it. I would honestly just ask him about it. But with the 6 cups there in the middle I doubt it only has to do with finances.

Doesn't have to mean couple. Can also come up for a strong connection/long friendship etc.
