I'm interested in reading tarot cards. I've read things on the internet that it's bad luck to buy your own cards and that it should be given as a gift??? Is this true? I don't know anyone that is willing to give me tarot cards as a gift.

All the tarot cards I've ever had I bought myself. LOL. I don't think so... It just means I wanted a tarot deck and bought one.

Ok! Good to know, I'm totally new to this, so I'll probably shop around for a deck and see which one suits me better-I saw there were alot of different ones out there. Then, maybe I can offer some free readings to the people on here!

I have always purchased mine, I just follow whatever instinct I feel to know which deck to purchase. Some speak to me, most don't.

I guess it depends on how you approach reading. I view it as a means to access your intuition, so it would be best served by picking a deck best attuned to the symbols your intuition speak in. Having another pick for you would be like someone handing you a French to German dictionary when your native language was English.

But there's no wrong answer. What makes you comfortable?

I guess I'll use the deck for beginners. Do you guys do a prayer/cleansing before reading?

I was interested in getting a deck years ago but followed the "had to be a gift" rule. My ex fiancé, when we were together, got my deck for me but I'm the one who picked it out. I wanted to pick something that had a specific vibration that I felt comfortable with. My way of cleaning the cards is shuffling them repeatedly before and after a reading until they feel "right".
