I can identify 3 ways at least. There seem to be particular ways for different types of spreads -

1)Shuffle and lay cards in a string as suggested in the MOVIES thread.

2) Shuffle, spread and select at random - similar to the way online tarot cards are pulled.

3) Shuffle, cut, choose the top card OR simply use the top card without cutting. Repeat for as many cards as needed.

I was wondering what people mainly use or which one is preferred.

I usually do not cut my cards. I tend to shuffle, pick the top caard, shuffle again, pick the top card and so on.

However you inspired me to try it a new way, setting the intention before, to cut the deck three times and take the top card from each pile, with the question as to how I am going to experience the concert on next saturday. So many people have pulled for me on that, just I haven`t done myself.

So with that "new" way of pulling, I got these cards:

Ace of Cups - Page of Wands - Moon
clarifier on Moon was King of Cups

I`ll let you know.

I use 2 or 3 , depending on my mood

I usually tell the cards what im planing to do so they can fall in the right position if i choose to go with #3

Im talking to my cards as if they can hear me, or something.. Like, OK cards, im gonna shuffle you now, cut in half and pull 5 from the fop. The question i need you to answer for me is ( this and that).

How interesting, Orange. I do the same, i.e., use 2 and 3, but let the cards know what I am about to do. He he!

Me too VG, I mean repeating the question again and again before spreading the cards out. I feel as if the cards are activated or sorted, if you prefer, by the question. Also, repeating the question works like a mantra. It focuses the mind and stops it from wandering off onto other matters which would then, I feel, contaminate the spread.
