I'm not sure what they are exactly but there old ancient scriptures that were buried by the Essenes...I think.
But I'm not sure what exactly is written in them.

Don't worry someone will know from here.

They are further extensions of the Bible, and their age is authenticated, but strangely enough, they do not mention Jesus at all.

oh and what do u think happened during jesus' 18 lost years? and why didnt the church want us to read about it?

Greetings...

There is a book called "The Nine Faces of Christ" by Dr. Eugene Whitworth that discusses such topics in a "fictional" setting.

Now I'm not claiming to be an expert, but this book has come the closest to what "rings the Truth Bell" of my Inner Ear. It's certainly worth a read, and gives much food for mental/Spiritual spiraling.

Blessed Be...

Hey theFajita...

As I say, I'm not an expert, and I don't agree 100% with everything in Nine Faces of Christ, but it comes closes to what "feels right" and "rings true" about that Master Teacher.

It's a great read, and as I say, provides lots of good food for thought.

The Dead Sea scroll were hidden in caves in the mountain by Khirbet Qumran by the Dead Sea in year 68AD (when Romans attacted the area). The first scrolls were found in 1947. Nearby are ruins of some buildings, that probably belonged to a religious sect, probably the Essenes. The scrolls, amoung other things, countains fragments from all the books of the Old Testament and the entire book of Jesaia (that predicts the birth of Christ). The socalled Dicipline scroll contains a law that is very similar to the law of Moses. The Temple scroll contains rules for purity, for defence and for building a new temple.

Fajita, there are 46 ghospels that tell the story of the life of Jesus Christ. On the big church meeting in Nikea in year 325 AD four of them were selected to be put in the Bible. Many of the other ghospels are said to be hidden in the Vatican. Though Jesus no doubt lived and is, like Asselzion says, a great master, the story of his life as we know it is not necessarily the true story, but the one that fitted the church the best.

Hi everyone,

There was a "documentary" type show on the discovery channel about 3 or 4 years ago that discussed the fact that although the scrolls were "discovered" in 1947 many of them still have not been made public. The ending line of the show was that if ALL the scrolls were made public 3 of the worlds religions would have to be "re-written". I've kicked myself repeatedly for not sending off for the tape of that program but I thought it would be rebroadcast but I am an avid discovery fan and I have not seen it again.

I have a book of the dead sea scrolls and interestingly enough part of them are on display in the town I live in. One of our local doctors is an avid biblical historian and he arranged an exhibit. I hope to attend.
One of the more interesting parts to me is the talk of the horoscopes and how to tell how many "parts" of light vs parts of darkness a person has in them depending on the body type and "hairiness."

But while I find the dead sea scrolls interesting....I MUCH prefer the Nag Hammadi Library. NOW that is some "eye opening" reading. Particularly if you love to read the "words" of Jesus and are interested in Mary Magdelene.
The gospel of Phillip is amazing.
That's where it says the Master used to kiss her often on her ***** (that part of the scroll is damaged but most assume it to say mouth).
And then there's that mysterious line about Jesus would teach her to become "male" so she might enter the kingdom of heaven. That one bothered me for years but I think I have it figured out now so......it doesn't trouble me any longer.

Anyway...when you read all of these "extra" works you start to see just how much the official churces don't want us to know.
But to quote the Gospel of Thomas....Jesus said, "Let him who seeks continue seeking until he finds. When he finds he will become troubled. When he becomes troubled, he will be astonished, and he will rule over the all."

I'm halfway between troubled and astonished!!

I also find it very interesting what's been excluded, and what we're "allowed" to read. And how this changes through history. In old churches you'll often find the zodiac painted or made as a floor mosaic, while today church won't accept astrology...

wow old churches actually had zodiacs painted on the ceilings and stuff? thats so annoying how the church totally forbids astrology. What are they so afraid of if people believe in it?

I'm confused now. I always thought that the dead sea scrolls revealed controversial details of Jesus' life. I heard that he was married to Mary Magdelene and was intimately involved with John. This makes sense to me since I always wondered why Mary M. was at the foot of Jesus as he was being crucified. It was also customary for a Rabbi which Jesus essentially was, to have a wife.I also understood that the dead sea scrolls were more of a message for us to pursue our own enlightenment rather thatn having someone "save" us.????

God, wouldn't you love to go down under the Vatican and see what is TRUELY there???

I have been raised Catholic, and never felt like I was getting ALL the truth. My father as a boy, had a terrible experience with a priest, and always said," Respect them for their Mass, but they are just humans too".

I feel the love for the Christ I was raised to love, but if it turned out the story was changed and he did love Mary Magdelene and have brothers like James, I would even love him more!!He came to be MAN.

I wonder if all the knowledge from the libraries of Fez, and Alexandria are in the catacombs...hummmm

I wanna go , I wanna go!!!!

(most people want to go to Hawaii on vacation)!! hahah

Peace and Love

Another find is the Nag Hammadi (Library). It`s a library of 4th century papyrus manuscripts consisting of 12 codices plus 8 leaves from a 13th & contains 52 seperate tractates.

It does have conversations of the Jesus the Saviour (using it`s termonology) with his disciples. Most intriguing is "The Gospel Of Mary" (Magdalene) & other gospels not included in the surviving bible. (I personally loved "The Gospel of Thomas")

Most important to me, is the references to Mother Goddess in "The Thunder, Perfect Mind" and "The Sophia of Jesus Christ". There`s many other references & the entire library should be read to understand the Gnostic book.

I recommend it to all

Juniper,
I agree. The Nag Hammadi is my favorite "biblical type" reading out of all of it.

I too love the Gospel Of Thomas and The Gospel of Phillip.

I don't think the Dead Sea Scrolls refer to Jesus by name at all. I believe there is much discussion about the sons of light and the sons of darkness.

The "juicy" stuff is in the Nag Hammadi works!!

Is there a publication of the Nag Hammadi Library that anyone can recommend? How do I get this info?

Hi Kat,

You can read it online---
http://www.webcom.com/~gnosis/naghamm/nhl.html

I use either the alphabet index or the codex, to find the Gospels. There are some with different translations, very interesting site.
