I'm new here and I'd like to send greetings to everyone. I was also wondering if anyone has ever had an OBE or experimented with lucid dreaming. I think I had an OBE early this morning and it really wasn't an enjoyable experience. If anyone knows anything about this, I could really use some enlightening. Thanks!

Welcome, Brett!

I don't know if this could be considered lucid dreaming, but I remember once that I was in the middle of a reiki session and my brother walked into the room to talk to me and I said I'd talk to him after I was done. I was wide awake, not drowsy or anything. Anyway, as soon as I finished, I got up to go talk to him, but I found that I'd locked my bedroom door, so he couldn't have come in. Weird?

Thank you, Aquamoon! My experience was while I was dreaming, I was floating around and doing flips in the air. That part of it was fun but I got scared and while I was waking up it felt like my body was paralyzed. I have experienced this since I was very young but never while having such a wonderful dream. It was as if my heart wasn't beating and I was kind of "waking" it up. It's kind of comforting to know that existing without a physical body is possible, though!

Welcome to LindaLand Brett!

What sort of information/opinions are you looking for?

Perhaps if you described something of your experience we could be of more assistance. I would love to hear about it! To be sure, all OBEs are not pleasant.

Oops! I did not see your last response!

Brett, what you experienced was completely NORMAL! The paralysis is classic in OBE literature and experience. Your mind awakened before your body, that is all. When we sleep, our bodies enter a state of paralysis so that we do not physically respond to what we are dreaming, otherwise we would be running around, fighting, eating, jumping, driving, or whatever the activity is that we are dreaming of doing.

Awakening to that paralysis can be very disconcerting at first, but when you come to realize that it is just part of the process, you will see it from a completely different perspective, and may even look forward to it! It is an indicator that you are in a certain altered state, one you wish to experience in the case of OBEs.

Happy travelling!

Thanks Ra, that was very helpful! As I said, the dream was fantastic but coming OUT of the dream wasn't. I started taking a supplement called DMAE Friday afternoon and after researching it on the internet, found that it can cause lucid dreaming. Maybe I can relax and enjoy it next time. Thanks again!

well i've never had one of those that i can remember, but the other day, PE class was really boring and the teacher was making us lie down on the floor to do meditation stuff, i got bored and i heard a conversation on the other side of the room but couldn't hear properly. its weird but i kind of told myself to "split in half" and then from my body i could see my shape floating in the air, but if i wanted to i could switch to looking through my "spirit" and see my body lying on the floor looking up at 'me', it was very weird and confusing, well i ended up not really being that interested in what the people were saying! i'm not sure if this actually was happening or weather it was just my imagination going into overdrive!
