My sister and I decided to check out a movie the other night, "Van Helsing" I thought it was pretty good, it looked like a staged fantasy comic book come to life. There are so many vampire movies in existence that it's mind boggling. And it poses a couple of questions in my mind, such as...do vampires truly exist besides the known vampire fetishists and psychic vampires? Or might they have existed maybe in some bygone era laying dormant beneath dusty, silent tombs? I wondered about that as we were driving home that...if enlightened immortals can exist then would it not also be a possibility that beings such as vampires do also? O_oIP: Logged |

If by "exist," you mean in this particular space/time reality, then I would say probably not; however, I do feel that there are many strange alternate Uni-verses (far away from our current frequency) that parts of find their way into collective consciousness and end up as creative works of fiction in this world. Of course, with simultaneous time being what it is and the nature of Uni-verse after Uni-verse stacked upon one another almost infinitely, upon a much broader examination of the question, I would have to say probably so. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Hey sugarlightning, I wondered the same thing when I saw the movie "interview with a vampire"...if a vampire looked like brad pitt or tom cruise, then I hope they do exist in this universe IP: Logged |

It's funny someone should post this. I was just thinking about this same thing last night. I decided I wanted to re-read The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. I've read most of The Vampire Chronicles. In the beginning of The Witching Hour one of the main characters runs into a man that works for the Talamasca (a secret agency that studies the occult and keeps tabs of it's members... psychics, witches, and vampires and much more).I thought to myself how fascinating it would be if something like this actually exsisted. Wouldn't it be exciting to meet someone from such an agency that could answer questions like these? IP: Logged |

Hi SugarlightningThanks for asking that question as I have been thinking about it for years and still don't come to a conclusive answer. years ago, there was a period when their was constant vampire movies and series on tv(I think it started when BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER first came out on tv).Ever since then,I have been wondering. It blurred my line between reality and fantasy. To tell you the truth,I sincerely hope their aren't any out there as I dont want to think about vampires roaming the Earth looking for fresh blood.I think one night they might come knocking on my door. Then what? Ps- I watched INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE on tv a few weeks ago and on a waiting list from the library to read the book. IP: Logged |

LibraSparkle-What makes you believe that a group like the Talamasca does not exist? I met a woman many years ago that is a physic for our government. She and a team of others investigates all types of paranormal activity. When I met her she was investigating a house for a family I knew. Talk about a job that requires dedication! IP: Logged |

Yang~ I warn you... they're addicting! It's a really long series, but each book is different from the last in many ways. The fact that they are vampires is really sorta just in the background. You really get to know and fall in love with the characters. They're sensual, witty, horrifying, loving, romantic, exciting, and above all entertaining. The movie Queen of the Damned really p'd me off. It totally butchered the book. I think I may have enjoyed the movie otherwise. Happy reading! Let me know what you think, and if you're going to continue the journey with Lestat and the many other vampiers and beings you will meet along the way. Irish Eyes~ I kinda figured something along those lines does exist... but the Talamasca doesn't capture, dissect, and make it's "subjects" vulnerable the way I would imagine anything associated with any government would. The Talamasca just watches. Just stays informed. Collects evidence, but doesn't interfere. It's entirely possible that something like this does exist. Until what pixel said comes true, I will just have my fantasies.

Goodevening everyone (^_^), I've read The Witching Hour that was a good book! So much history and depth that you would almost think Anne Rice actually researched an entire family history and threw in a little voodoo for extra mix. I'm positive something similar to the Talamasca does exist, there's a book called "Spiritual Politics" which explains what I mean. It has to do with the Invisible Government (Adepts working behind the scenes with people in power) and about how they've worked to help mankind in general, it's really good. And I agree with Yang lol I wouldn't want to meet a vampire either but I remember someone telling me that, everything that comes into existence in the material sense means that it does exist some place else... I think Randall could be rightO_o. With Honour and Intrigue, Sugar***

LiberalSparkle-The woman I met and her fellow "teammates" only gather data. No disection or tampering with. When I met her, the team was working on documenting the strange occurances in a house that a friend's cousin lived in. The team did all the background history research on the property but also contacted the spirits and "other thing" that the house contained. Eventually, the house was boarded up and no one is able to live there. The team did not preform anything to try to rid the land of what was there, they only made the family move after it was determined that it was a very active site and that the family was in danger if they stayed. I guess that there is a chance that Anne Rice has also met or heard of such people. I personally think that the Talamasca is modeled in part after the Illuminati and the Knights Templar. I agree that the books are wonderful. I love both the Vampire Cronicles and The Mayfair Witch's Stories. And I too was not happy with the way Queen of the Damned was done as a film! IP: Logged |

Yang,I bought the first several books at www.half.com. They use Media Mail. The cheapest of all shipping. Also, Half.com sets the shipping fees, so the seller can't rip you off the way they can on Ebay. I don't remember exactly what I paid for the books, but I know they were ALL under $4 a piece including shipping. Couldn't hurt to check Ebay. You could get several of the books at once and find a decent seller who doesn't charge a fortune for shipping. I recently bought the Flowers in the Attic sieries + some other VC Andrews books (9 total) on Ebay for $7.something including shipping. IP: Logged |

i really don't that anything that we humans dream up is impossible(or anything at all for that matter), i don't think we know how to. all myth springs from truth, even if in the end the myth is quite different from when it began, a story never gets retold the exact way it was the time before, so maybe our vision of vampires is a bit embellished from the real thing but i haven't got any reason not to believe that they didn't once exist, or as randall said they do in an alternate reality.IP: Logged |
