I thought about this when I saw the post for ouiji boards...

When I was in about 5th grade, a friend had a birthday party thrown by her mother, who everyone in the neighborhood claimed was a "Witch". (Kids will believe almost anything)

Anyway, there were the four of us, thin, scrawny, pre-pubesent girls. The birthday girl's mom suggested we try this light as a feather trick. We positioned our fingers under the mother while she gave the chant instructions. (I swear, she weighed at least 2-250 lbs.) I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't been there, but low and behold we lifted the *****! And she was light! Almost as soon as we had her up a bout 3 feet for a few seconds, we dropped her. I was horrified! And yes, I think I became a woman that day!
Any ideas about how this could possibly happen??? I really didn't care if she was a witch I still went to the party. Did it have anything to do with 3 of us trusting her dispite what everyone else said? Never the same since about believing in the paranormal-I believe! Any one else with experiences like this? I'm not sure if the other girls are tuned into this website, and if you are, remember Mrs. Hershal and Denise?

I did that too, only I was the 'feather'.
There was marijuana involved, so I can't be sure if they were all pulling my leg, and I was very 'influenced' and believing anything.. or if I actually was lifted.. not that I was that big.... And my eyes were closed. It sure felt neat. Like the experience one has when you 'tremor' when you ar almost asleep, and feel like you'tre falling.
Lots of fun explorative things happen like that when yu are young. Learning boundaries (some limitless) between body and soul.
But I do believe it is possible. I beleive almost anything is possible.. one can have enormous strength in a situation where it is needed... and in the collective.. a bridge is only as strong as it's supporting beams....

I haven't done it in AAAAGES but I did that with a few female friends years and years ago. Wow must have been in my mid teens. It worked for us as well and freaked out a lot of us. I wasn't quite as freaked out but just amazed by the whole thing.

I don't tend to talk about it a lot because most people will just say "yeah right"

I don't think there's any real trickery or magic involved, other than possibly mental suggestion. It works on pretty much the same laws of physics that makes the "bed of nails" "trick" possible.

I had a sort of an opposite experience, where i'd get heavier, like by 100's of pounds. My boyfriend would freak out... I don't know if this helps... I'm wondering about it too

When I was a kid we all did it at sleepover birthday parties at night, it was a big deal. It always worked for us.

I have done this, too. But in the context of a martial arts class. It's a fairly common phenomena. It involves the focus of Ki (Chi)and centering. In other words, mental focus and power.

Whether it's "light as a feather", or an "unbendable arm", or an "immovable object", it's all mostly the same excercise.

Just another perspective.

And, because I'm sure someone will ask, I study Aikido.

I've done the stiff as a board thing, too. I was the feather and my friends all were able to lift me. That was at a slumber party yeeeaaaars ago.

Later on, while studying Hypnotherapy, I was the stiff as a board person and when I was placed on the chairs with only my shoulders and feet supported, one of the classmates actually sat on me as if I was a bench! I have a picture to prove it! Mind-boggling.

Every time we had a slumber party, the girls would pick ME as the feather because I was the smallest (and hence, the lightest). As soon as we reached the top, where all of the girls arms were fully extended towards the ceiling, they'd get so excited that they'd all start squealing and shrieking -- and drop me.

All I can say is, ouch. My poor bum hurts just thinking about it.

Would you believe that we did this in a Physical Science class in High School?

The teacher was trying to calm the fears of some of the students who were being "taught" at church to FEAR EVERYTHING. So she explained it with a little science and a little psychology and a lot of laughs.

hey,

sorry, but I don't know the chant.
Could one of you share it with me, please, so I can do my own test.
It sounds like fun!

You know, I know somehow it could be psychology or somethin ( ) but what about the e = mc squared thing? I wrote a page once on this ( http://www.megspace.com/science/porsche911/qed/spectrum.html ) but what I'm thinking now is totally different. What if the ENERGY you project and ARE yourself influences your mass. And hence, the force of gravity is lessened - ie f = ma where m is severely reduced, and hence the force is lessened? I think there is a lot more to Einstein's equations than first appear. Like the laws that state time dilation or length contraction etc have a divisor of 1/(square root)(1 - v squared/c squared) where since the square root of a negative number is impossible, if the speed of the vehicle was greater than light, then the divisor would be termed imaginary (anyone still with me). My point is that imaginary numbers are used everywhere, and yet symbolise something impossible (what times itself equals negative one?) I think imaginary numbers must exist in reality, and maybe the light as a feather is an application of this as well - the mass is still there, but somehow removed...

Dean.

ps. I wrote a book once that incorporated some of Einsteins equations. It may be found at http://www.megspace.com/science/porsche911/Meaning.doc . I get mixed reactions from people that read it. Some people have printed, bound and shelved it, while others are less enthused

Could somebody please explain to me what exactly this is, how it's done? Like...what position does the liftee assume, where are the lifters, where do they lift from, etc? 'Cuz I'm not getting a clear mental picture here.

Hi folks,
I'm not a ouiji master!
Kidiback, that sounds about right. We also did this at night with a few candles lit.
Sesame, That's a very good theory and probably the answer. I don't think it was "Magic"
But, when you are a kid you probably don't have the insight you just gave. Kudos!

Ah, but what is Magic? Are you saying Magic can not be explained by Physics? Maybe we have no rules yet to explain most magic, or to produce said magic in a test environment, but they could be out there...

Ok,
Hello everone I've ben reading these posts for about a week now and decided to put in my 2 cents.

Sesame,
I'm not a physics genius, but here's one for ya...(I'll give the short version to save space)
Ok. MY CONDENSATION THEORY
Matter is merely energy condensed into a single point in space and time-right?
And as we all know matter has a particular vibration/frequency to it. We as humans can only directly interact with matter/energy within a particular frequency range. (Water is liquid, the computer you're looking at is solid, and x-rays go right through us, etc.) Well, we know that the freq. range is much larger than we can directly interact with. But, if you concentrate energy into a single point in time and space it will eventually accumulate mass. The greater the mass, the lower the vibration of the matter.
Eventually, that matter would condense to a point that is directly tangible to us humans within the freq. ranges that we can interact with.
Hmmm...magic? ....miracles?...anything come to mind? What about heaven? If everyone has been thinking about something for so long, could it BE?
-oK, just a thought. sorry about the space. and no offense to anyone in any way intended.
