Good morning,

Hopefully today finds you as spry and clever as yesterday had left you, even more so, insha'Allah.

The story of Issa and the moneychangers at the temple came to mind last night.

Will you please explain the meaning of this rare display of anger on the part of Issa?

Did the moneychangers know what they were doing? It feels as though there is more to the story than meets the "I".

Something to do with the moneychangers and the TRUE measure of accountability for what they were doing, yes?

Yad Kardan, how truly sensible.

Thank you, Teacher, for offering your hand when most it was needed.

Respectfully and with much love...wa salam,

daf

Dear Daf,

I am sorry for jumping in. No response here, and since Jesus is my role model, I decided to add my thoughts. Jesus grieved when he saw money traders in the house of GOD. The courts had been converted into marts of trade, and men were selling lambs and doves for offerings in sacrifice. He rebuked the priests that for paltry gains they sold the temple of God. The house ordained for prayers was now a den of thieves. Can good and evil dwell together in the courts of God? No.

And then he made a scourge of cords and drove the merchants out; he overturned their boards, and threw their money on the floor. He opened up the cages of the captive birds, and cut the cords that bound the lambs, and set them free.

He said what he did any Loyal Jew should have stood up and done the same. Even at the expense of their own life.

Peace.

Thank you IAT for your insight into the question. While I agree with your assessment on the surface, it feels like there is something hidden beneath the surface of this episode.

Jesus could have easily forgiven the moneychangers as he had forgiven even those who crucified him, and perhaps he did, but the question remains, why this unique moment of anger?

There were many more injustices; acts against the Almighty.

The Pharisees themselves were practically described as hypocrites who cared more for the power of their position than anything else. Why not whip THEM? Why not drive THEM out of the temple?

Certainly, there is room for me to be in error, it wouldn't be the first time and almost certainly won't be the last, but I honestly feel that there is a hidden meaning, a hidden consequence in the spiritual realms, accompanying the actions of these moneychangers. Something very grave...

Thanks again, my friend. An open heart shines through in your desire to help those around you.

Wa salam,

daf

Dear Daf,

The signs of Jesus Christ's messianship is the words he spoke and the deeds he performed. Every deed he did was a lesson he wanted us to remember and imbibe after he is gone. He has set a pattern for men to follow. In this act we acknowledge that the local Jews did nothing against the disgrace brought to the temple. They were indifferent and may be even feared their life.

And the lessons of this deed does not only apply to local jews but even to other religions who do allow such horrendous activities in the temple premises.

I am so glad when I returned from the Lourdes(France) pilgrimage and I found that the camping place for campers were far far away from the main sacntuary. So also the nearest restroom. Jesus must be so proud today (Ofcouse he may not be proud of other things, but thats not the point). And this is just one example. Ofcourse my experience is related to only the travel I undertook. But I was moved when I saw how holy they kept the place.

He did preach many days in the temple since then and no Pharisee dare come near him because he was peoples favourite.

And remember he wasn't angry he was grieved. He did what he thought was right.
How many of us stand for righteousness today? Some people do stand for a cause? But they cannot decipher evil from good?

You must also know that the Pharisees were not bad, ignorant yes. A typical pharisee fasted 2 days a week and gave 10 percent as tithe.

Jesus came to teach that the Father God is the King. He said he is the candle of the Lord aflame to light the way.

God never uses force on his people. He wants us to naturally understand our folly. Sooner or later we would.

Peace.

Yes Daf it was ! Thank you.

I couldn`t remember how you worded the question

"Will you please explain the meaning of this rare display of anger on the part of Issa?"

That question indicates you believe he was angry?

I have been following this theme in contemplation/study.
