Beliefs v.s. Magic:Beliefs are emotionally held thoughts about ourselves, others and situations. They are not based on fact but on our perception of events at the time they were formed. Now ponder this: Once there was a prince who believed in all things but three. He did not believe in a princess, or in islands, or in God. His father, the king, told him that such things did not exist. There were no princesses, islands, or Gods. The young prince believed his father. One day, the prince ran away from his palace to the next country. There, to his astonishment, from every coast he saw islands, and on these islands, strange and troubling creatures whom he dared not name. As he was searching fora boat, a man in a full evening dress approached him along the shore. "Are those real islands?" asked the young prince "Of course they are" Said the manin in the evening dress "And those strange and troubling creatures?" "They are all geunine and authentic princesses" "Then God must also exist!" cried the prince. "I am God" replied the man in full evening dress with a bow. The young prince returned home as quickly as he could. "So your back" Said his father, the king. " I have seen islands, and princesses, and I have seen God" said the prince reproachfully. The king was unmoved. "Neither real islands, nor real princesses, nor a real God, exist" "I saw them!" "Tell me how God was dressed" "God was in a full evening dress" "Where the sleeves of his coat rolled back?" The prince remembered that they had been. The King smiled. "That's the uniform of a magician. You have been decieved." At this the prince returned to the next land, and went to the same shore, where once again he came upon the man in full evening dress. "My father, the King, has told me who you are" Said the young prince indignantly. "You decieved me last time but not again. Now I know that those are not real islands, and real princesses, because you are a magician." The man on the shaw smiled. "It is you who are deceived, my boy. In your fathers kingdom there are many islands and many princesses. But you are under your father's spell, so you cannot see them." The prince returned pensively home, when he saw his father he look him in the eyes. "Father, is it true you are not a real King, but only a magician? The King smiled and rolled back his sleeves. "Yes my son. I am only a magician" "I must know the real Truth, the Truth beyond magic" "There is no Truth beyond magic", said the king. The prince was full of sadness and wished to end his life. The King, by magic cause, caused death to appear. Death stood at the door and beckoned to the Real prince. The prince shuddered. He remembered the beautiful, but unreal islands, and the unreal, but beautiful princesses. "Very well" he said, "I can bare it." "You see my son," said the king. "you to now begin to be a magician." --The magus. John fowels

I just wanted to say that I think that is awesome. I keep reading it over and over, and making a little more sense out of it to myself. It'll take it a bit to sink in because a lot of the "magic" or illusions I have held for so long, I want to believe they are cold hard reality.IP: Logged |

Wow, you've been busy NeoStar. All good stuff. Much to contemplate and reply to. As for beliefs/magic, yes, as you summed up:"Beliefs are emotionally held thoughts about ourselves, others and situations. They are not based on fact but on our perception of events at the time they were formed." Interesting how you could maybe see Magic like this. Magic is somehow perception? As in illusion - I mean, the master illusionists like pen and teller, or the other guys, and yet, God is the Teacher of the Master's hey? When you think you've figured it, well, I guess think again. When you know all, well, you wouldn't be alive would you? So maybe magic is, and belief is our filter? The more open the filter, the more resonant the magic? The more closed, the less we understand or learn about the magic that is? Very interesting thoughts, Dean. IP: Logged |

Yes that makes sense Dean. I just saw the daily quote on my calendar. quote: "Those who stand for nothing fall for anything" --alexander hamilton.
