Hey guys,
As most of you know, I am leaving to work in Walt Disney World from May 25th til January 4th of next year. Well, as I also just pledged into a co-ed business fraternity, and our National Convention in Las Vegas is from August 3-7 of this year, and I really, really, really want to go! I have tenatively signed up, but need to talk my Disney manager (Who I haven't met yet... ) into giving me the 5 days off. Actually, it would really only need to be 3 days off, since we're guaranteed a "weekend", basically 2 days in a row off mid-week when the crowds are less busy.

I am in dire need of ways to Creatively Visualize (I think that's what it's called) myself being there at the National Convention in Las Vegas during August 3-7, for I've heard this can work wonders. Please? Can anyone give me some tips?

Simple.
Do not take any vacation or fall sick until August. I am assuming you are entitled to 5-6 vacation days on your new job. If so you would have accrued 2-3 days of vacation in August.

So I would take 2 days off and call in sick on the third day for my trip. Its important your Boss does not know that you would lie about the third day. Its a white lie, and if it means so much to you, don't feel bad about it.

A month before is the time to give notice, talk with him and tell him how much it means to you, a couple of days is not much to ask for, even if you haven't met him, he'll appreciate you asking, he'll appreciate that you have goals in life, and he'll appreciate your commitments.
Your busines fraternity is a priority as it will play a *major part in your career life.
There's no maybe, it has to be yes.
If he knows anything about rising up in the business world, he'll UNDERSTAND what you need and why you need it.
Trust the business folk, they know how important networking is.

Visualise this year as you'd like it to go, and going to the fraternity a part of your plans this year.
See yourself there like you're there now.
Be there.
Know it. Be honest with your new manager, and grab life by the balls and get what you want without tiptoeing around.
You can do it. Be strong, and be confident.
I repeat, be strong and be confident with him, it will benefit you, I promise.

Thanks for the great ideas and encouragement, you guys. My fraternity brothers are being a tad annoying saying they need to know whether to "allocate" some money to help mw with expenses for the Convention, and therefore need to know whether I can go before June 1st. Therefore, I need to start visualizing now, so as to be able to ask my mananger the first week I get there.

I looked closer at the website for the Walt Disney World college program, which is what I'll be working through, and here's what it says:

Will I have the same days off each week?
Your time off can vary depending on your work location and Guest attendance. You may or may not have the same days off each week.
Can I get additional time off from work?
Time off for weddings, graduations and other personal occassions must be processed through your work location's manager. We cannot guarantee any days off before you arrive.

So they're saying they wont guarantee anything before you arrive, so you will organise it once your there with the manager, so basically just give plenty of notice.

Where there's a WILL there's a way. Always.

I don't know any specific techniques. I find just kNOWing the outcome before it happens without doubt works every time.

So does that mean you'll be away from LL, or will you still have access?

I'll stil have access to internet through the computer labs around my apartment complex, SunChild, so although I'll be around quite a bit less, I don't plan to drop off the face of the earth completely, LOL. I'm going to get the time off thing settled within the first week that I'm there, before anyone else asks for time off. I mean, it never hurts to ask early, right? I'm sending all my positive energy into going to the bi-annual AKPsi National Convention this year (well, not all of it, for I'll need alot of positive energy to perform my job to the best of my abilities too). Think positive, think positive!!!

Hi VA,

It seems they do not want students to take same days off every week because I suspect they fear they would do a parallel course/program during their current engagement.

Also appears you cannot talk of vacation until you report at work location. Spend one or two days knowing your Boss and then brooch the subject. But you have to do that 4-6 weeks in advance of planned vacation.

If your boss is really experienced and seems like a nice person, you may not even have need of a white lie

visualising is almost as good as the real thing.
Ways to? I dont know just do it.
Creatively?

Just visualise yourself there how it goes etc,etc and thats it, what do you see, feel, hear act, etc and you should be fine???
