do you mean the place itself, or the incident that occurred there with the girl and all? The vibe I get from the place is... um... a warm fun place The vibe I get from the incident is that it should never have happened. However, whenever you travel or go anywhere, you are responsible for your actions and ultimately your safety (to a large degree). It is a regrettable and horrible thing that happened. May she rest in peace. IP: Logged |

thanks for responding - actually, i was talking about the incident. sometimes, when news is being bombarded into my zone via newspapers, news on tv, etc., etc., etc. - it's almost like being drawn into figuring it out or seeing it played out like a movie or something. yup - I pretty much was raised that if in a strange place don't go off with strangers - especially by myself so i really don't understand that but then, everybody makes a poor choice in judgment at least, once in life. oh boy, they are arguing about the aruba incident here at work so picking up more info. I think if she was alive those guys wouldn't have anything to hide. I wish so much they would come clean so her family can have the peace of knowing. God be with them. I hope the case gets solved and that justice is served. IP: Logged |

Exactly. How sad when that one mistake ends up being your last. They had chaperones on this trip. What was the point of that then, sicne it obviously made no difference =/

Well theres only so much chaperones can do. Plus most of these kids were legally adults. IP: Logged |

i don't know but there are quite a bit of missing people - and an increase in missing and deceased youths within this year alone so..................along with quite a few domestic husband/wife, girlfriend/boyfriend disturbances and/or incidences happening within the home. as for the chaperone comment - i mean, come on. having a chaperone is one thing but to have (just guessing) 5 for about 20-30 students...........think about it. there is only so much a chaperone can do but as with a few issues within the past couple of years - the subject of what a parent relays to their child for that child to take with them and implement when not with their parents, is the subject. "TRY" to do and/or remember as i say, not as i do type of things. it seems that a lot of parents may not do this much now considering how "exposed" they may feel when it comes to what they do and what their child sees as opposed to what they do/don't tell their child - i don't know. maybe it's the feeling of restriction or personal freedom later rejected that hampers adult/youth communication nowadays - consider how many of us got the "speeches" which we clung onto for dear life but later found to be a noose. it's just strange, is all. i can just barely remember when i was 18 but what i do remember is how eager i was to meet new people - i mean, just graduating high school, etc., etc. regardless..................i don't think the truth about what happened with this young lady will come about for many many years, if at all. The point of chaperones is for protection. Yes, keeping tabs on all your charges all the time is impossible, but the number of chaperones is decided upon bearing in mind the number of students (if there were 5 chaperones for 30 students, that's a chaperone for every 6 students. Not too many). No, I do not believe that the chaperones were in any way responsible for what happened. However, these kids were all under 21. By US law, they should not have been in a bar at all, and since it was a school trip, US law was applicable to these students. There should have been more done to make sure that they didn't go to such places. Perhaps a chaperone could have accompanied them or something. I know nobody could have forced these girls to tell them where they were heading before they left, but part of me wonders whether keeping a closer eye on these kids would have prevented this from happening. That is all.To be perfectly honest, although I think this was a regrettable occurence, I think the girl was pretty much responsible for whatever happened (not as in responsible for what was done to her, but for what happened, in that it was her decision to leave with strangers). Anyway, whatever. (I don't know if you meant your response in an 'attacking' kind of way, because I sure didn't mean mine in that way, but I'm a bit snarky today, so if I sound snarky, now you know why.) IP: Logged | |
