look!
electronegative field and gravitational field.. both of them are nature's fields.. both are consevative in nature ..
and well the symmetry of the equations so obtained (by maxwell) ..on the circulation , flux etc of the different vectors surely imply that something such as a negative mass MUST exist ..somewhere..
i mean when there is a positive charge that experiences a force which is a "push" and a negative charge experinces a "pull" likewise..
so by analogy .. there must exist something that experinces a push (and not a pull) .. by the gravitational field..
i mean i m sure u must have thought about it 2 .. now the question is : where is this negative mass? and what is the reason god hs in his mind that he does not let us have any interaction with it?
thats one thing - now next consider this!

consider a circular loop of wire of resistance 'R' in electrical isolation suspended in space ..(of constant cross-section.. so that the flux does not change due to change in area).. initially the flux of magnetic field through it is zero .. next we vary the flux say linearly (or whatever way).. then obviously there will be a current produced in the loop that will be proportional to the differential of the flux with-respect-to time ..ie it will be proportional to the differential of the magnetic field with respect to time (since the area of the loop remains constant)..

analogous to this consider the following situation..
let there be a column of water .. which forms a circle ... (you getting it).. ie you replace the molecules of the wire with the molecules of water .. then you will have obviously a .. "piece" of water that meets its on tail.. ok! ( http://www.nashville.k12.tn.us/CurriculumAwards/Cole/circle_pattern.htm .. here the water is black in colour (say))

now if you vary the flux of the field X through the circle..well then should not the water flow..
since water is a collection of mass i mean.. and mass is same as electrical charge .. (going by the analogy i mean )
and here the resistance will be offred by the ground etc to the flow of water . ..
here X is some field that say might be a cousin of gravitational field .. like the magnetic field is a cousin of the electrric field.
ie why is there no existence of such a field in nature?
well what du u think?
or did i interpret maxwell's equations wrongly?

I thought, all that Maxwells equations implied was that Magnetic fields produces current and current produces magetic field.
It also for the first time implied c - speed of light is constant which led Einstein to hypothesise the TOR.

Wasn't it also Einsteins equation that had the possibility of negative mass ?

Talking of Gods...it is indeed interesting where does the electron suddenly seem to dissapear and suddenly reappear. In that sense this world is truly an illusion. Just as the ancients seers of India used to say

Guy, sorry for taking so long to reply.

OK, I have used Maxwell's equations in the past in order to determine snells law - that n1sin(theta1) = n2sin(theta2). I believe the equations prove that the electric field and magnetic field are one - that to determin snell's law for example requires yuo to polarise one plane out - ie electric or magnetic. It is the electromagnetic field. This is what light is, and in fact, I once saw a three dimensional view of light as osciallating like a spiral through the electric and magnetic planes (ie what Linda said about corkscrews). Anyhow, Dark matter exists in the universe because it explains why the universe in rapidly expanding instead of slowing down. Surely, the "normal" matter would pull everything back in? Well, my argument is what if we can't see the whole universe. Why are scientists so adamant that they know the centre of th universe? What if the universe was so vast (infinite) that we couldn't see the other much larger universes pulling our mass? Also, there could be massive or numerous blackholes. I'm not against darkmatter, but I think if gravity attracts, then dark matter repels? So electrons repel, but nuclei attract electrons (do to containing protons). So positrons (positive electrons) are the opposite of electrons and hence attract to electrons. So if dark matter met normal matter, they would anihilate each other and go back to God Anyhow, what I'm getting at is negative matter was determined by particle accelerators I thought, and not by the electromagnetic force. Have you heard of Youngs experiment? That's a fascinating one. It proves that electrons move like light and sometimes like particles depending on how you studied them. Truly God-like As to your questions, I think God is energy yeah? Well, when she created mass, she had to create an opposite that if added back to mass would have to create the energy again. Everything is in balance. It's like many people are right handed - more so than leftys. But I bet some other planet is the opposite. Likewise, the dark matter is a good distance away and must equal the same ammount as normal matter - energy is neither wasted nor destroyed right?

So, back to your experiment. Yes, flux induces current, as current induces flux, but I think with water there is a lot of nuclei that would slow the movement of the electrons. You'd have to have a high enough flux that would over-ride the weak nuclear force that bonds the electrons to the nuclei. So, yes, I think it could be done.

IAT, Mesons come in pairs that live for about 10 milionths of a second. They anihilate each other. I think they come from other interactions or collisions between much larger particles that hit our atmosphere. They then glide to Earth and disapear into light. I don't think electrons do that unless they meet unfriendly positrons (as mentioned above).

Dean.

can you answer me this: what are the equations that imply that the universe is expanding?
be specific ok!

and to be very frank i do not understand what dark matter is..is it that matter which would experience a repulsion force from normal matter (like our bodies etc)that follows the inverse square law?

and what are particle accelerators?
how do u define them? what law in physics do they obey?

and yes i have read young's (double-slit) experiment .. it proves the wave-particle duality.

so california institute of technology is popularly called caltech! oh i get it (feynman) now!

My thoughsts Dark Matter:
Its a mystery and scientists are puzzled.
I think, if you add up all the masses of the observed universe, that is mass of sun, earth , planet, etc, etc, etc,,,etc.

It only accounts for a few percentage of the total mass. In other words the universe is filled mostly with such dark matter that have not been discovered.

Sesame - when I said electron appears/dissapears, is there/is not there;
I was speaking of implications of Quantum Mechanics.
Its so fuzzy at the quantum level and we need to speak of the chance of electron being at a certain place X at time T.

Where are the electrons if its not there?
Remember schrodingers cat ? Unless you are the absolute observer you would never know?

It appears the whole world is made of statistics (probabilities, chance) at the granular level. There is no rule at the building blocks level.

Einstein believed "God does not play dice." and discarded Quantum mechanics.
And yet quantum mechanics has been valuable in proving so many things in experiments.

I am just fascinated by it.
Can we as human, change the movement of electron, set a chain of events and use it to what we desire, such as walking on water (as Jesus did or Levitate as the himalaya Yogi)? of course our belief must be in line with the Absolute observer (God)
(as often stressed by Jesus)?

Well let me get beer, before I get a headache

Wow, so many questions

I don't know what formulas there are for the expansion of the universe, but it is observable by a thing called the red shift. As stars move away, there colour becomes more red - implying they are moving away. Nothing becomes bluer and hence moves towards us. The rate that they become red is the rate they're moving. I have never once read about "the centre of the universe" which I think must exist for everyone to think everything is moving uniformly away. I think maybe they don't have enough data yet. In any case, some places probably move faster than others depending on whats pulling them etc. So sorry, can't be specific.

Dark matter is as IAT says. I think it's the same as anti-matter - hence ours is light, there's is dark. When light and dark mix, they anihilate. The theory goes, for every particle, there is a corrosponding particle of the same mass and density, but opposite charge. For example, electrons are a lot smaller than protons, and are negatively charged. So, and antielectron (or positron) is as small, but positive. Likewise, the opposite of the proton (antiproton?) has same mass by negatively charged. When a hydrogen atom of one proton and one elctron meets it's anti-equivalent of anti-proton and positron, they anihilate. My point was though that how do we know how big the universe is? It's like saying infinity is this big <----> so what about infinity plus one? What we see and measure are very local in my eyes. I think the big bang is local and not just one. Have you heard of the steady-state theory? Basically as the universe expands, ne matter forms out of the energy and hence there is always space. The problem is that people keep looking at the super novas and other massive stars and can't see the baby ones so much. The Eagle nebula I believe has millions of baby stars.

A patricle accelerator is a massive circular tube. It has magnets all around to keep the particles in the middle, and to also accelerate them. For instance, a proton has three quarks. If you accelerate them, there mass grows (relativity) and then when they crash into other quarks, you get to see the effects of their gluon plasma - gluons keep quarks together, so at high speeds you can this interaction. Theoretical physicists explain these interactions and particle physicists categorise the new particles formed. Somewhat, I'm oversimplyfying.

Yes, but Youngs experiment also explained how the particles behave according to how we look at them.

IAT, very well said. Exactly what I've read. I've also wondered where the electron goes between the quantum states. Also, have you seen Feynman diagrams? I always wonder how does the photon know where to go? Or the second electron to smash into the photon? Fascinating stuff

Yes, I was just telling my wife last night how I'd love to get into metaphysics through quantum physics. Ahhh, beer.

Dean.

Yes I had heard one or two Feyman's lecture on the internet. Wish I was a student again. Its tough to get on top of problems if you are not a student any more.

I am not sure I understood dark matter to be same as antimatter. Maybe I am not catching up with the new things they are finding. I thought the dark matter stems because its not been discovered yet. Yet experiments seems to indicate their presence. The antimatter would come in to play after their discovery first. The universe is far more mysterious than we imagined it to be.

One of those things, like the constants selected during creation of the universe without which life would not have been possible.

It also made me think of another situation: Well lets have an experiement. let the chicken and duck be hatched near a pool of water and their mothers be taken aways.

Why does the duck head for the water and chicken doesn't?

The supreme intelligence is in all things.

I forgot to add about that red shift in spectrum. The way they calculate that is using Doppler effect and applying theory of relativity to it. When they calculated how fast the nearest stars are moving, the scientists were alarmed. The universe is expanding at a very very fast rate.

If this continues the zodiacal signs would look very different that what we observe today. The universe would appear like a stretched rubberband. I think I posted it in LL somewhere about this. And about the expansion stopping and the universe contracting. A big crunch that will be the opposite of the big bang. When time would reverse its arrow? People would die first and then return to their womb? That is so if time reverses. I was just reading 26Ts post where they said time won't reverse, but there won't be a notion of time when the creation swallows. (I just read passing by and would spend some time concentrating more on what the author was trying to explain). I thought I would share at this moment. I was althinking that our earth isn't so old. May be 8-10 billions years. Nor are the modern humans that old on this planet earth (may be 40,000 years old). So I really wonder, why would the creator destroy these things that are fairly young in the cosmo age. I believe the age of the universe is 15 billion years. (Sorry folks for all that numbers, please doublecheck for exactness)

Would not that be waste of resources. I like the Hindu ideas of Yuga (cycles) of the universe. That has much more zeros in the time, before the whole of creation goes back to sleep again. This makes more sense and also conserves resources. But then experiments are proving how fast the universe is expanding. Wish I could choose easily between options

Well sorry for going offtopic.

oooooookay....
I'll answer your question.
I was bumping a thread............

when I bump a thread, one usually says'Bump'
Sometimes I say "Hip-checking this thread to the top"
sometimes I use a cute graphic like this cute little penguin...

'Ba-da-bump' implies I am 'drum-rolling' it to the top, as an unveiling.

....because I have a sense of humour and drama.

I answered your question.. why did you ask it?

Love you too Dean!

i asked it coz i wanted 2 get the humor thats all!

anyways, i know i m gonna sound reaaaaaaaalllly weir bu can i plz have permission 2 replrase mi question..
actually i went overboard last time when i originally posted this topic..

ok now what i wanna ask is that since :
gravitational field n electric field are both Nature's fields.
and because there is a positive charge in nature and a negative charge which responds to the electric field.. so..
because "symmetry is the law of Nature".
so there shud be "negative" mass.
And do they call it dark matter?
I know u tried explaining me, bu i kinda din follow a single word, 2 b honest!
But just answer me in a yes or no the question i have asked!

If it's dark matter that means you can't see it, which means it doesn't reflect light. Most other matter reflects light, even black objects reflect a little light.

What is it about dark matters chemical makeup that makes it not reflect light? Can we asssume then that it absorbs all light? If this is so, then it absorbs all of the lights energy, and therefore should radiate some sort of heat?

How is dark matter being detected, by is gravitational effect on other objects only? Much the way a black hole is detected?

Perhaps dark matter isn't anti-matter but simply a form of matter than absorbs light. Or even allows all light to pass through it.

Just some food for thought.

I didn't take physics when I was younger, but now that I'm back at college I can't WAIT to take physics. I'm presently building a firm foundation in math, so I can fully understand and apply physics. I read everything Sesame and AT? wrote and I don't understand all of the references, but I can see the main idea of some of concepts. I KNOW that if I can combine metaphysics with physics, I will find some of the answers I am looking for.

On the subject of infinity and things moving away from the center at high speed...
I tend to think of as far as our minds and science can reach into the universe as one single cell in the body of whatever all-knowing/powerful etc being. I see science's idea of expansion as witnessing the "breathing" of this entity. Our entire world's existance could exist in only one slow breath, "relatively" speaking.
I read something about how fast we revolve around the sun, if I remember correctly it came out something like 20 miles per second.
I like to try to wrap my mind around that kind of speed. I just can't wait to take physics...

spooling.......

light matter = magnetically repel = potential energy

dark matter = magnetically attracts = kinetic energy

potential + kinetic = movement

light + dark = evolvement

senses = catalyst

don't know where this is coming from - maybe someone else could help me sweep out the dust
