For the past couple of years,I did some research on the Generation gap.According to social security,Boomers were born tween 1946-1964.My husband(a baby boomer)told me that there is no such thing as a gap nowadays. There was only a gap between the GI's(born who knows when)and the Boomers.I was 1978.Am I an X or Y?.Also, can someone give me thier own demogarphic list?.

Thanks

http://users.metro2000.net/~stabbott/genxintro.htm

I was born in 1974, and knew in high school that I was part of Gen X. The website above states information about both X and Y.

Good luck!

I haven't looked at that site, but I'm pretty certain 70's children are Gen Xers.

Did you know that Generation X was the name of Billy Idol's first band?

lol...I learned of Billy Idol's old band WAY after the fact. It was on an early 80's punk collection I bought.

For awhile there I was liking bands retroactively. I'd been around in their hayday, but never noticed them until they weren't popular anymore.

1954...a boomer and a hippie.....
I thought X was those born from 1964 to 1979 and everyone born in the 80s is a Y.
So what are those born in the 90s and 2000 to now?

a distinction that i once read about and liked lies in the "wanted"-ness of the children. apparently a lot of the child rearing literature from when gen-xers were first born centered a lot on the idea that you shouldn't let children get in the way of what *you* want.
thoughts tended to shift in the early 80s when more people were planning when to have their children because they actually wanted them. think the introduction of those "baby on board"signs.

shannon

Hey Peace!

I'm a '76 baby. So this would make me a Boomlet if I read the article correctly. Right?

*I found your post on the voices of each generation funny... I just put down a book I'm reading on Nirvana so I could check in here at LL! Cool!

Future uncertain,
I knew you'd laughed about the voice of Gen Y.What's strange is that these 2 artists seem to grab people, and it's not just teens.Do you agree/disagree that us Yer's are spoiled and proud of it?.Hmm.

Technically, I'm an X, but barely! I'm at the very tail end of '76. But I have noticed a certain disrespect among the Y's for anyone who is older. I work in a restaurant and when I started working it was normal to kind of "concede" to those who were older, know what I mean? The kids who come in now just don't care. They tend to be mouthier and self-absorbed. I don't know if it's a Y thing or just this town...!

As I said, born in '80...but don't particularly feel a part of any "generation"...especially not given those descriptions and role models.
