Here's a classic (and love the album cover where the guy has turned off the TV and computer and instead looked out the window):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxwRzW6ehAU

So many things I think about
When I look far away
Things I know, things I wonder
Things I'd like to say
The more we think we know about
The greater the unknown
We suspend our disbelief
And we are not alone

Mystic rhythms capture my thoughts
Carry them away
Mysteries of night escape the light of day
Mystic rhythms under northern lights
Oh, the African sun
Primitive things stir the hearts of everyone

We sometimes catch a window
A glimpse of what's beyond
Was it just imagination
Stringing us along?
More things than are dreamed about
Unseen and unexplained
We suspend our disbelief
We are entertained

Mystic rhythms capture my thoughts
Carry them away
Nature seems to spin
A supernatural way
Mystic rhythms under city lights
Or a canopy of stars
We feel the powers
And we wonder what they are

(Oh oh oh)

Mystic rhythms capture my thoughts
Carry them away
Mysteries of night escape the light of day
Mystic rhythms under northern lights
Or a canopy of stars
We feel the push and pull
Of restless rhythms from afar

If the spirit is moved within us then I'd say mostly by imagination, and that imagination may be a component of the soul (though it can be our own worst enemy at times).

Same band, and though I'm inclined this song is more relevant than when it first came out, I (age 2-3) was probably just less aware back then (especially the turbulent 70s that wracked the world in petty warfare):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvM387NJTYg

I see the Middle Kingdom between Heaven and Earth
Like the Chinese call the country of their birth
We all figure that our homes are set above
Other people than the ones we know and love
In every place with a name
They play the same territorial game
Hiding behind the lines
Sending up warning signs

The whole wide world
An endless universe
Yet we keep looking through
The eyeglass in reverse
Don't feed the people
But we feed the machines
Can't really feel
What international means
In different circles
We keep holding our ground
Indifferent circles
We keep spinning round and round

We see so many tribes -- overrun and undermined
While their invaders dream of lands they've left behind
Better people -- better food -- and better beer
Why move around the world when Eden was so near?
The bosses get talking so tough
And if that wasn't evil enough
We get the drunken and passionate pride
Of the citizens along for the ride

They shoot without shame
In the name of a piece of dirt
For a change of accent
Or the color of your shirt
Better the pride that resides
In a citizen of the world
Than the pride that divides
When a colorful rag is unfurled

x

A more modern version, Mystic Rhythms makes me think of this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03-SGoDZkRM

Strange skies!
Strange skies!
The sun burns through the windows.
Rising from the stones
As dear as ancient clockwork
To mark our time alone
As order moves to chaos
So time cannot re
Watching from the tower spire
A finite uni
And all our burning questions
And all out greatest fears
They look to find the evidence
But they will not find it here
Strange skies!
Strange skies!
Science and religion
Upon each other's throne
Naive to thought beyond their box
They cannot stand alone
And all our burning questions
And all out greatest fears
They look to find the evidence
But they will not find it here
For all our deepest secrets
Distilled in heartfelt prayers
Only concludes to claim as true
What consciousness may bear
Strange skies!
I'm not convinced you understand
For all the insight in your hands
I'm not convinced you comprehend
The consequence we are
To only reach without support
A printers wish from nothing more
Than what you've seen and deem is real
For god is not contained
God is not contained
God is not contained
Strange skies!
God is not contained
Strange skies!
Strange skies!
Because a dream to quantum space
A particle to love
Cannot conclude to prove as true
What we know nothing of
And all our burning questions
And all out greatest fears
They look to find the evidence
But they will not find it here
For all our deepest secrets
Distilled in heartfelt prayers
Only concludes to claim as true
What consciousness may bear
I'm not convinced you understand
For all the insight in your hands
I'm not convinced you comprehend
The consequence we are
To only reach without support
A printers wish from nothing more
Than what you've seen and then believe is real
For god is not contained
God is not contained!

Also this, and the vid is obviously a metaphor, but I'm not sure of what...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcqEZapjf7g

I do not know the mind of God
And I can not guess his thoughts
But I have searched for you across the void
When my sense of self was lost
The answers danced to brush my grasp
In the darkness and the pain
And I saw myself for all I am
Through decisions I have made
With hearts immortal
We stand before our lives
A soul against oblivion
Forever asking why
This upside-down symphony
In a paradox called life
Are hearts immortal
What you give to love
Will never die
And when my ashes scatter me
With my memories to the wind
What endures beyond the silent edge
Is the essence found within
Have we forgotten truly who we are
And what our living means
Our purpose lies in others' eyes
And the realities that we bring
With hearts immortal
We stand before our lives
(Stand before our lives)
A soul against oblivion
Forever asking why
This upside-down symphony
In a paradox called life
(Stand before our lives)
Are hearts immortal
What you give to love
Will never die
All that I am and all that I dream
Lives somewhere beyond your image of me
And who I become and what I will be
Is not yours to decide
It comes only from me
With hearts immortal
We stand before our lives
A soul against oblivion
Forever asking why
This upside down symphony
Is a paradox called life
Are hearts immortal
What you give to love
Will never die
Will never die
Will never die

3 biggies at the moment:
Bjork — Who Is It (Carry My Joy on the Left, Carry My Pain on the Right)
Gogol Bordello — Seekers and Finders
Fiona Apple — On I Go
(I’ll do the lyrics for this last one, since it’s short)
On I go, not toward or away
Up until now it was day next day
Up until now in a rush to prove
But now I only move to move.

Old And Wise - Alan Parsons project http://youtu.be/kW8zmVt0VGM

"Old And Wise"

As far as my eyes can see
There are shadows approaching me
And to those I left behind
I wanted you to know
You've always shared my deepest thoughts
You follow where I go

[CHORUS]
And oh when I'm old and wise
Bitter words mean little to me
Autumn winds will blow right through me
And someday in the mist of time
When they asked me if I knew you
I'd smile and say you were a friend of mine
And the sadness would be lifted from my eyes
Oh when I'm old and wise

As far as my eyes can see
There are shadows surrounding me
And to those I leave behind
I want you all to know
You've always shared my darkest hours
I'll miss you when I go

[CHORUS]
And oh, when I'm old and wise
Heavy words that tossed and blew me
Like autumn winds will blow right through me
And someday in the mist of time
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine
As the final curtain falls before my eyes
Oh when I'm old and wise

As far as my eyes can see

Don Mclean was so little regarded. I just thought of Starry Starry Night and His more known one came on the radio.

This one is Starry Starry Night http://youtu.be/oxHnRfhDmrk
Lyrics are in the video.

- Try American Pie if you liked this one. Don Mclean understood things many didn't.

I'm thinking back to ones I recall because the ones of the folk days really were understated to get by the radar. America was a censored nation before this past year. Cat Stevens was sent off our radio and he moved to Iran (Persia).

I think this thread is more about mystical, as in magical - I'll try to stick with that vibe. 💙♾️
