As Hindus around the world celebrate Diwali ( festival of Lights) today, I was wondering how did it all come about? I know that a god ( I think) and his lover were sent into exile, and returned 12 years later. That is all I know. What is the real story behind Diwali?IP: Logged |

Well the hindu prince Ram gets incarnated on earth as a prince to destroy a demon king Ravan in Srilanka. He is sent on exile for 14 years by his step mother. Wife and a brother joins him. Just before exile ends he returns home defeating the 10 headed Ravana. For miles and miles people light their house and streets with lamps to welcome him. They are all jubilant to get back their favourite prince. Good wins over Evil. Thats in a nutshell. You may google for "Ramayana by Tulsidasa" for an Epic story. I think, its the best adventurous story ever written. Moreso because they say it happened, thousands and thousands of years ago. Theres a historical place in Rameshwaram southern India for proof about its occurence.
