Hello All!

I am designing my next tattoo and love this ancient Celtic symbol. I want to incorporate the Pisces glyph into it, but I need a little history on the symbol before I have it inked on my body.

From what I understand it is an ancient Pagan/Wiccan symbol for maiden, mother, crone.

All help is appreciated.

Hey!! I'm at work so I am unable to post any pics But I found some info that I hope helps!

quote:
The Triskele is used to symbolize the cycles of life with in the three fold, or three spheres of influnce in the material world.

The three spheres (Land, Sea and Sky) represents the three aspects of the material world that are contained in every object. Each aspect ever flowing outward and always returning to the point from which it started.

This symbol is also used to symbolize the Druidic Threefold Sister Goddess: Fotla/Eiru/Banba. Ireland, or Erin, is named after Eriu. It also symbolizes the Wiccan Threefold Mother Goddess: Maiden/Mother/Crone.

The Triskele was a representation of the importance of the number three.

quote:
Also known as Bridget, Brighit and Brid. Goddess of healing, fertility and the hearth. She is the patron of poets, smiths and doctors. Breo Saighead, or the "Fiery Arrow or Power," is a Celtic three-fold goddess, the daughter of The Dagda, and the wife of Bres. Known by many names, Brighid's three aspects are (1) Fire of Inspiration as patroness of poetry, (2) Fire of the Hearth, as patroness of healing and fertility, and (3) Fire of the Forge, as patroness of smithcraft and martial arts. Brighid's festival is Imbolc, celebrated on or around February 1 when she ushers Spring to the land after The Cailleach's Winter reign. This mid-Winter feast commences as the ewes begin to lactate and is the start of the new agricultural cycle. During this time Brigid personifies a bride, virgin or maiden aspect and is the protectoress of women in childbirth. Imbolc also is known as Oimelc, Brigid, Candlemas, or even in America as Groundhog Day. Transformed into St. Brigid in the Christian revolution of Ireland.

quote:
...Hecate was also considered the goddess of crossroads. She belonged to the class of torch bearing deities, and was conceived as carrying a burning torch to suit the belief that she was the nocturnal goddess of the moon and a huntress who knew her way into the realm of spirits. She was depicted wearing a gleaming headress of stars. All the secret powers of Nature were at her command. She had control over birth, life, and death. Because of her power in the three areas of nature, heaven and earth she was represented as triple form. She as called the triple goddess. The three phased moon. She was depicted as three female figures or as one with three animal heads. Horse, dog and bear. Or sometimes three dogs. All wild animals were sacred to her.

------------------
`Who are you?' said the Caterpillar. This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, `I--I hardly know, sir, just at present-- at least I know who I WAS when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then.'
~Lewis Carroll

Hexxie, the tat is black and from what I have learned, black hurts the worst as they have to go very deep.

Bought 10,000 Days, today and it is beyond awesome! Those guys are musical magicians and the magic they create as the years go by just gets better and better!
